  • I thought I would share some more cloud photos.

'The cloud covered the tabernacle of the testimony, and the glory of the Lord filled it.'

    Exodus 40:32

'The soul has followed Moses and the cloud, both of these serving as guides for those who would advance in virtue; Moses here represents the commandments of the Law; and the cloud that leads the way, its spiritual meaning. The soul has been purified by crossing the Sea; it has removed from itself and destroyed the enemy army. It has tasted of the waters of Marah, that is, of life deprived of all sinful pleasure; and this at first had seemed bitter and unpleasant to the taste but offered a sensation of sweetness to those who accepted the wood. Next it enjoyed the beauty of the palm trees of the gospel and the springs; it filled itself with the living water, that is, the rock. It took within itself the bread of heaven. It overwhelmed the foreign host - a victory due to the extended arms of the Lawgiver, which thus foreshadowed the mystery of the Cross.

Only then can the soul go on to the contemplation of transcendent Being.'

    St. Gregory of Nyssa

'Furthermore, while the soul is withdrawn from everything and is turned within, the eye of contemplation is opened and sets itself up a ladder by which it can pass to the contemplation of God. By this contemplation the soul is set on fire for eternal things by the heavenly and divine good things it experiences, and views all the things of time from a distance and as if they were nothing. Hence when we approach God by the way of negation, we first deny him everything that can be experienced by the body, the senses and the imagination, secondly even things experienceable by the intellect, and finally even being itself in so far as it is found in created things. This, so far as the nature of the way is concerned, is the best means of union with God, according to Dionysius. And this is the cloud in which God is said to dwell, which Moses entered, and through this came to the inaccessible light.'

    St. Albert the Great

'Prayer must be humble: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Here St. James tells us that God does not listen to the prayers of the proud, but resists them; while, on the other hand, he is always ready to hear the prayers of the humble: The prayer of the man that humbleth himself shall pierce the clouds, . . . and he will not depart till the Most High behold. The prayer of an humble soul at once penetrates the heavens and presents itself before the throne of God, and will not depart thence till God regards it and listens to it. However sinful such a soul may be, God can never despise a heart that repents of its sins, and humbles itself: A contrite and humbled heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.'

    St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori

    Sincerely,

    Shin

  • "For the first time you [lift your heart to God with stirrings of love], you will find only a darkness, and as it were a cloud of unknowing [...] Whatever you do, this darkness and the cloud are between you and your God, and hold you back from seeing him clearly by the light of understanding in your reason and from experiencing him in the sweetness of love in your feelings. [...] And so prepare to remain in this darkness as long as you can, always begging for him you love; for if you are ever to feel or see him...it must always be in this cloud and this darkness."

Even when I take good plane or birds in flight photos, without some clouds it just doesn't quite have the same touch.

Thank you my friend. I had some good finds today, I will process this afternoon. The Lord is gracious. Certainly more success with clouds than with butterflies.. they are just too flighty.

  • This thread is highly nebulous.

    ;)

My favorite kind of cloud is cuмulus, which is known colloquially as "mashed potato clouds".

Notice that weather, like the legal world, medicine, and science in general, makes heavy use of Latin. Latin might be a dead language but it would seem to be the 2nd best language to know today, after English. Maybe if you're into travel instead of science, learn Spanish instead. But still --

  • Here are three from the other day, and several helpings of mashed potatoes from the garden. :laugh1:

Basically 99% of my cloud photos are home grown, taken from the backyard.
