Google online children's classics for starters. Tons of free material. The homeschool catalogue stuff is way too overpriced, I think.
I had mine make their own for a while, using those well-bound notebooks with a space for illustration on each page.
I got many used readers at the Salvation Army for $.50 apiece, beautiful hard-bound with wholesome material and nice illustrations.
My little girl also loves the Little Golden Books because they are so pretty. She's reading the Boxcar Children series these days- - because Grandpa sent over a boxload of them.
Junie B. Jones is a brat, but in the larger scheme of things fairly harmless.
