I was just recently viewing the website of an independent trad bishop(I won't give his name). He has a few websites connected to his apostolate, and on his websites the majority of the images of the blessed virgin depicted her with no head covering. And, I find that odd. I know that the garabandal apparitions had a lady with no head covering, but I don't consider that apparition authentic.

Is there is any church teaching or tradition about our lady not having a head covering? I want to know if/when it is fitting. These art depictions I refer to had her high up in the dark clouds/sky as if it were night if that means anything. 99% of the time I would say that our lady is depicted with a head covering. So, for this independent bishop to have such minority depictions as the majority I find suspicious. And, I would like to hear what others have to say.

There is a miraculous image of Our Lady in South America where Our Lady was depicted without a head covering with her hair flowing down. I believe it's name translates to "Our Lady of the Rocks." Of course the Church later added a crown to the image giving her a head covering.

Matto - Why have I not heard of this apparition? It is quite extraordinary. The lady with child from a haunted cave heals a deaf mute child, and then raises the child from the dead soon after. All the while the mother had kept it a secret, but could not after the child died and was raised from the dead. Then, the image appears on the cave wall, and the rock itself is providing the color naturally from very deep within. To top it off, an amazing gothic basilica is built over the shrine/river. It occurred in the 1750s, and was approved in the 1950s. Why did it take so long?

Our Lady of Good Help in Wisconsin appeared without a head covering.

I remember when it became approved by the local authorities Catholic Family News covered the story.

Called to Envangelize: Adele Brise gives a full account. There is also a miraculous story about the area being saved from the destruction of fire. That was very interesting.

We have a fairly large statue of the Holy Family. Our Lady has long brown hair and no covering. What stands out, is Mary is just as tall as St. Joseph. I thought that strange. The Statue I guess, dates to about the 40 or 50's and has a place in front for a votive candle.

I found out about it a few years ago when I came across an article about it at Tradition in Action. I have never heard anyone else mention it at Church so I figured it wasn't very well known in the United States like Our Lady of Guadalupe which everyone knows about.

Was Mary as tall as St. Joseph? I guess it could be possible. Wouldn't she be the perfect height for a woman? just as Jesus was the perfect height for a man?

At her Assumption into Heaven she left her veil on earth, my understanding it is still here in a Church as a relic. She is pictured going up to Heaven without a veil. I also believe, not a dogma, just a pious belief of mine, that she was crowned with Heavenly flowers, that will never die (because they came from Heaven) instead of a hard gold crown with Jєωels, which would be so uncomfortable and hard to keep on her body now united with her soul forever.

myrna - I think that explains it. There is a tradition that goes far back surrounding our lady's veil being left behind. Whether it is true or not is another story. But, that provides the reasoning behind the art depictions of her not having a veil. And, the art I was referring to was off her in heaven, so it is themed after the assumption.
