  • Can someone please explain the significance of WOOF as it appears here? I am either too old or too foreign to get it.
    Hi Nadir,

It's a clip from the movie "Home Alone." The main character goes into his big brother's trunk and among other things, discovers a picture of his brother's girlfriend. "Woof" is used as a reference to a dog. If someone's girlfriend is considered ugly or unattractive, she is considered a "dog," or a "woofer." He was calling his brother's girlfriend ugly by saying, "Woof."

    Anne. :-)

  • I got a good laugh from your post. Thanks for that.
Oh hi Meg! I am still waiting for my "We get sarcasm" official t-shirt. Will I be waiting awhile, or...can I go ahead and put in an order? (Asking for my imaginary, anonymous CI friend--the one that is obsessed with fur balls, praying monkeys, and tin-foil hats).

    ;)

Yes, the joke went over my head completely because I don't joke about priests or nuns.

In America, when a male says "woof" after looking at a female it means he thinks she's very unattractive.

  • He owns the St. Paul Saints minor league baseball team, and I always wanted to take my kids to one of those games, where the ballpark is old school, the prices are cheap, no blaring rap music, and the players aren’t overpaid babies.

Unfortunately, he has this Novus Ordo nun giving massages for the last 20+ years, so we’ve never been able to justify going:

I really don't think there's anything to see here.  The good Sister is 90 years old, blind, and athletes get sore muscles.  It is more in the nature of physical therapy or even a species of chiropractic.

It's a far cry from these garish, neon-lighted Asian "massage parlors" in cheap strip malls which are basically fronts for prostitution.

It just doesn't seem like a profession for someone whose profession is to be a servant of the Lord.

    My, how pious you are.

For clarification: since certain people here do not understand my joke, (exempting Nadir) I was "woofing" at the fact of a nun being a masseuse, not the appearance of said nun.

Now that has been clarified, please stop making utter fools of yourselves and get over it.

For my part, I understood (and share/shared) your sentiment.

So are you saying that physical therapy or chiropractic would not be suitable either?  Nursing?

I struggle to understand how a 90-year-old woman working on the muscles and joints of injured athletes could be even remotely inappropriate or arousing for either the therapist or the patient.  And sometimes such contact is necessary.  Many years ago, I required intense daily physical therapy to rehabilitate an injured hand, and the therapist was a very comely young woman.  Of course I found her attractive --- as a (then) reasonably young, virile, heterosɛҳuąƖ male, how could I not?  I just had to remind myself "you have a wife at home, and she's who you're married to, not this cute blonde who's trying to get your hurt hand back in shape".

Massaging baseball players is quite a bit different from nursing or physical therapy. Especially for someone who has dedicated their life to God as a holy religious.

  • ^^^^ Luke 18:11
Indeed. I often wonder if the joyless, sanctimonious Catholics today would be recognized as such by Catholics even 100 years ago. If Chesterton were alive today, I'm sure many would find him impious as well.

"The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say: Behold a man that is a glutton and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners. And wisdom is justified by her children."

    She’s massaging fans.  It’s a disgrace.

“Hey Barney, lets have another beer, then go get a rub from the nun.”

“The other night I got to help my friend Monica help Sister Rosalind Gefre get to and from the St Paul Saints baseball game where she gives massages. (Pro Tip: she gives free chair massages there – very close to where you walk in. You should do it!)”
