Title: Bardcore
Post by: angelusmaria on October 14, 2022, 08:19:35 PM
A few years ago, during the lockdowns, I stumbled across the genre, Bardcore.  Pretty cool, my two favorites:

              Me likes it!
Especially Pumped Up Kicks.

Brilliant!

Robert hath a swift hand
He doth gaze upon the fyrd, and he maketh a plan
He hath a jaunty cap, perched upon his head, he is a longbowman
He did find an old bow of yew
And a quiver of arrows in his father’s chest, wherefore I cannot say
But he cometh for thee, yea he cometh for thee

All ye bully-rooks with your buskin boots
Best ye go, best ye go
Outrun my bow
All ye bully-rooks with your buskin boots
Best ye go, best ye go, faster than mine arrow

Father worketh all day
And he cometh home late, yea he cometh home late
Mayhaps he bringeth me a gift
For stew is in the pot though it doth taste of grit
I have waited e’re long
Now mine eye is quick and mine arm is strong
I reason with my crooked cap
And say “Thou art an artless, greasy tallow-catch.” Yea

All ye bully-rooks with your buskin boots
Best ye go, best ye go
Outrun my bow
All ye bully-rooks with your buskin boots
Best ye go, best ye go, faster than mine arrow

Original version of the song:

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, but won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette
Hanging out his mouth, he's a cowboy kid, yeah

He found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet, and with a box of fun things
I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

Daddy works a long day
He'd be coming home late, yeah, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
'Cause dinner's in the kitchen, and it's packed in ice

I've waited for a long time
Yeah, the sleight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigarette
Then say, "Your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah"

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

Run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run, run, run, run
R-r-r-run
Run, run
Run, run, run

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

Most of 'em are instrumental, but wow are they good. Especially songs that had a great melody to begin with ;)

This isn't Bardcore, but I found it during my search down the Bardcore rabbithole. I LOVE good music by true musicians.
And I love upbeat music with a Spanish beat.

Reminds me of The Gypsy Kings :cowboy:

I would be interested in seeing some group do versions of present tunes but in Old or Middle English. As we have seen, it works well with Old French.

An aside: you can sing O Little Town of Bethlehem to the tune of House of the Rising Sun :cowboy:

Thank you for taking the time to post the side-by-side lyrics for Pumped Up Kicks.  My favorite Bardcore performer is Hildegard von Blingin, who has a Youtube channel.  She adapts the lyrics on all of her remakes.  I really like her Jolene, as the lyrics themselves already lend themselves well to adaptation.
I too enjoy Spanish/Flamenco/Classical Guitar type music.

I think one of the coolest performances I have heard is the concert: Sacred Music From Medieval Spain: The Llibre Vermell And The Cantigas De Santa Maria.  Especially must listen to in this concert is Cantiga 302 : A Madre de Jhesu-Cristo, begin at 12:04:
