I'm sure many of you have seen that 3D reconstruction of Our Lord's Face from the Shroud of Turin.

Well, someone here applied an AI algorithm to animate Our Lord's Face.

This is very moving.



Of course, they cannot fully capture that glow in the eyes (the one you see in pictures of the saints), where the eyes are a window into the soul.  And this algorithm looks a bit twitchy at a couple spots.  But perhaps they can expand on this and improve it.  Perhaps add more facial expression, and a fuller smile.

I don't have any idea whatsoever where they got that caveman image of Our Lord.

This is exactly how I picture our Lord when I meditate. It was both uplifting and unsettling for me. I'm actually surprised more people don't base their images of Christ off of the Shroud these days. Rather, I keep seeing this abominable "caveman" rendering of Our Lord:

Or, even worse, the effeminate Jesus.

I also dislike the effeminate depictions of St. Joseph that have been pretty popular and become widely circulated.

Maybe they're eventually trying to morph to a Black Jesus.

So, the image here that forms the basis of the animation was actually determined from various "depth" data on the Shroud, where they could actually determine the "distance" away from the Shroud of the various features of Christ and were therefore able to construct the 3D image.  According to Ray Downing, who put together the 3D image, it was based on some 3D encoding that "shouldn't be there".  So much for the clowns who kept claiming this was a medieval forgery.  I still recall Wojtyla insisting "publish it" (with it referring to the conclusion it was a Medieval forgery based on fake carbon dating)

There are a ton of effeminate Sacred Heart images that popped up in the 19th century. Right now the one on the Fatima Center calendar I have is cringe-inducing:


I get Jesus is meant to be depicted as approachable, warm and loving; but this just makes Him look weak and a little light in the loafers. Not the King of the Universe as something like this:

St. Basil the Great claimed that Jesus never laughed, and, I cannot remember which saint said it but there was one that even claimed He never smiled. Which makes sense given that His entire life was meant to be of the most intense suffering. This is not to detract from His interior joy through His union with the Father, but, the solemn Jesus matches His solemn character that comes through in the Gospels.
