  • Kevin Reynolds, who directed Waterworld and most recently History Channel's hit miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, has signed on to direct Resurrection, the story of Christ’s rise from the dead, for LD Entertainment.

LD is financing the project, which will be produced by Patrick Aiello. Paul Aiello, his brother, wrote the original script, which was revised by Karen Janszen and Reynolds.

Resurrection tells of the first 40 days after the resurrection of Jesus through the agnostic Roman centurion charged by Pontius Pilate to investigate rumors of a risen Jєωιѕн messiah and locate the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth in order to subdue an imminent uprising in Jerusalem.

The centurion meets the Apostles and other historical and biblical characters, and as he continues his investigations, his beliefs are altered.

LD is describing the project as Gladiator in tone but with a mystery bent, an all-ages movie that tells of how the first Easter came to be.

Reynolds directed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves as well as Waterworld, both of which starred Kevin Coster. He partnered with Costner again for Hatfields & McCoys, the six-hour miniseries which garnered numerous Emmy nominations and became one of the biggest cable ratings hits in television history. He is repped by WME.

LD produces as well as distributed movies. The company was behind the Liam Neeson survival drama The Grey and recently released Killer Joe, the William Friedkin thriller starring Matthew McConaughey.
