Well, the greatest plot of all against true art is the one that started with Lucifer's infamous "I will not serve!"
It's been the sad plight of mankind ever since to be tempted to (try in vain to) overthrow God, God's law, and everything godly (all goodness, order, virtue, etc.) in every realm of human life, the idea being that as many people as possible go join that first revolutionary where he is now and forever will be.
The arts are no different. Mankind, wanting and trying in vain to overthrow God, God's law, and everything godly, have tried to recreate art (a gift of God given only BY God) in the image and likeness of sinful man, if not the devil himself. Having boldly declared art to be, not a divine gift, but something man gives to himself ("learning" it) or gives to one another (as in college), he proceeds to bring it so low it is no longer even a shadow of that which it was meant to destroy (real art).
If I've said it a thousand times, I'd say it a thousand more... If you want to be a good artist (assuming you actually DID get some talent from God, so that there's any point to your trying), then be a saint. People might think that's a totally unrelated thing to bring up, but really... when it comes down to it, all that God created was created for His will and glory. If you're failing at that, you're failing as an artist. (And as a human being, for that matter.) And in order to succeed in it... REALLY succeed... the more you need to know the Author of your talents, so that you may know His example of your craft, His perfect good traits you hope to have present in your work (order, beauty, etc.), and to avoid poisoning your work with your own corruption and sins and vices, the chiefs of which are most often pride and impurity. To be a saint would be to understand as perfectly as possible the proper use of your talents, to be painstakingly careful in using them, and to be able to use them without simply mass-murdering minds and souls by the publication of your work. If an artist wants to get to heaven, they had best have every intention of starting toward perfection now!
