Before finding tradition, I went to a a few healing masses/services held at the local N.O. churches. I remember people being prayed over by a priest or lay people. Many of the parishioners would faint and fall backwards but in anticipation, there would be 1 or 2 lay people basically helping them lay down. The priest or the lay people when they pray over you they bring up stuff about your past, present or future and at least in my experience, they would ask Jesus to help with X, Y or Z. Sometimes it was not about yourself but about a family member. For example, I was told that my mother would suffer greatly and possibly within 6 months after that my father died suddenly, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and 3 months after the death of my father, my mother died.

The whole experience is like divination or something like that. I've never been to a medium or card reader but I imagine it feels like that. Most of the time though, I felt like the priest or the person performing the "healing" was airing out my sins and anyone standing close enough can hear. Obviously, nobody wants that because you may be there with your family and you just don't want others to hear what only priests hear in the confessional. I bring up this topic because someone in the family is promoting one of those events and I'd like to have some solid arguments against attending such an event.

Could you please share your thoughts on this?

I would recommend watching the videos produced by either the Dimonds or Ascent of Mt Carnal youtube channels on the charismatic movement. It's non-catholic and must be avoided.

Diamond brothers: "Most Holy Family Monastery" has a video about charismatics.

Sorry, that's Dimond, not Diamond.

The Charismatic movement was started by protestants, see link below.

Charismatic is just a new name for the old holy roller tent revival meetings of the 1930's, '40's and '50's.  They were a hoot to observe.  These tents would pop up anywhere and kids would sneak under the tent to watch.

When the apostles, inspired by the Holy Ghost spoke, they spoke in their own language but everyone heard and understood in their own language.  Charismatics speak in gobbldegook and no one understands them.

On par with a ouija board.
