are they right? it would be voting for civil divorce... but... i don't know. i want to know in case something like this ever happens in the US.

Holy Mother Church permits divorce.  We are just not permitted to marry again.  Nowadays, everyone is paying for annulments and then "marrying" again. This is adultery.
