It's amazing the things that have changed in such a short time. I know catholic women who married in the late 50s early 60s whose families lived in the suburbs, but never had more than one car and dad was the only driver, until one of the boys got old enough to drive.
Of course, now many of those same women drive and even purchased their own cars, with their new low paying jobs. Still, their living situation hadn't changed much (the distance they had to go to get to the grocery store or mass for example, hadn't increased and their work didn't take them far away from home). So, it seems as if the culture changed and they changed (to a degree) along with it.
Also, they didn't used to wear pants either. But now, unless they go to mass, they usually do.
Some of the really old catholic women have never driven and never wear pants, but of course, most of them have died in the last decade or two.
