  • Moderator Note: This person is probably full of crap. I've never heard of an SSPX chapel where "many women" go there in pants.

One of the greatest priests and my favorite was the Holy Cure of Ars. Why can't more priests be like him? They could only eat potatoes and hear confessions for hours at a time. They could be honest to everyone and not say what the people want to hear. They could scold sinners, like the many women who go to SSPX chapels in pants or in skirts that don't even reach the knees. The Cure of Ars wasn't even smart. He was stupid. But he was wise also. Why can't our priests, many of whom are much smarter, be good priests like he was? Are they just too in love with the world? Are they secret sinners? Do they really hate the God they pretend to serve? Are they infiltrators who are secretly serving the enemy? Why are there so few good priests out of all the billions of people in the world?

  • We hear of Priests like the Cure de Ars because he was a good priest. Same with Padre Pio and many others. Not every priest was as good as he was during the time that he lived. There are wonderful priests in our day and age that people will hear about in ages to come (if the apocolypse doesn't happen).

It's not all doom and gloom. The church still has heroic Priests, even amongst our generation.

Either you go to a really lax SSPX chapel or you are trying to stir up trouble!!!

    This.

What do you mean, "the many women who go to SSPX chapels in pants or in skirts that don't even reach the knees."

That isn't my experience at my Texas SSPX chapel. Texas is a hot place, too.

Once in a while, we'll have ONE woman in pants -- always a visitor. That's it.

  • The Cure of Ars wasn't stupid. He had quite an impressive library.

You know, standards were much higher back then. He might have been smarter than most SSPX priests, for all we know.

Have you met him? Have you given him an IQ test?

On the contrary, look at his prose. His sermons. Does he come across like a dumb, Miller Lite-drinking, unemployed, Air Show watching, high school dropout, TV addict with gaps in his smile to you?

In defense of the OP, there was an OR in there and while I only see guests wearing pants to Mass, I do see a good number of too-short dresses.

I would say there are a number of women "riding the line" or trying to see what they can get away with -- wearing knee-length "while standing up" skirts/dresses.

But isn't that the minimum standard?

I think the standard should be "higher" (pardon the pun): ankle-length.

Of course, once you get stricter than knee-length, it's time to buy a sewing machine. Not every woman is that generous (to souls, Our Lord, etc.)

Some want a measure of convenience, acceptance by the world, etc. For them, knee-length is where those two standards meet.

While I strongly disagree with these women, I would place them in a different category than "above the knee"-skirt-wearing women, for the sake of accuracy if nothing else.

  • In the last 18 months at my SSPX chapel, I have seen exactly two incidents where a woman was wearing pants.  One woman was in her late 20's to mid 30's and the jeans were very tight fitting (like the ones you normally see in the novus ordo).  She may have been travelling.  The other one was a very delicate looking 15-19 year old who had a look of embarrassment in wearing the jeans (they were very loose fitting).

I did once see a mom of one wear a dress that showed more thigh than it revealed and she did have a mischeivous grin on her face.

So, three occurences in the last 18 months.

  • Thread topic: Why is it so hard to be a good priest?

Current topic based on number of posts: Dress code.

Perhaps a more apt thread might be Why Can't People Stick to the Issue?

  • But it seems to be a toss up among the novus ordo presiders.  Half of them should have been stand up comics at biker bars while the other half a stand in for Mr. Rogers who always talked to two years olds.

  • I've known exactly ONE good and holy NO priest.  He was ordained under the Byzantine rite and has a Slovak Catholic parish in Michigan.  He celebrates an English and Slovak NO Mass with as much reverance as possible, and also the Tridentine Latin Mass.  Confession is before every single Mass every day.  All the priests there are from Slovakia.

He did quite a bit of good for my family when we lived there.

  • 3 reasons it's hard to be a good Catholic:

    1-our fallen nature
    2- satanic temptations
    3- the world

The sewing machines need to become part of our lifestyle. I'm not saying every woman has to sew her own dresses. They should be a normal part of most households though. Teenage girls  and women with children older than six  can do sewing for others.
