  • Isn't an SSPX chapel a Roman Catholic chapel?  In a Roman Catholic church, isn't everyone welcome?  Hasn't that always been the case?  Why, just because someone disagrees with +Fellay and vocalizes that disagreement, should they be barred from the church building?  Isn't the Roman Catholic church for sinners?

If I were a Jєω, protestant or muslim, I could come in and attend Mass.  I couldn't receive the blessed sacrament, but I would be most welcome to be there.  My point is that the Holy Mother Church doesn't refuse entry to anyone.

Now, there may be a crazy person who interrupts the Mass, causes disturbances during the Mass, etc.  There are legal remedies for that.  The priest can get a restraining order against that person, but the priest must show that the person is causing a disturbance.

So, unless there is a restraining order, who can stop anyone from attending an SSPX chapel?

The question becomes a basic question.  Is the SSPX Roman Catholic or not?  If they are, then they can't refuse entry to any sinner and more importantly, they should not.

This is a good post. Yes the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist is distinct from the SSPX. Even if one is a bitter critic of this organization, and yet attends Mass at one of it's chapels, I don't see any reason to deny this person Holy Communion or to bar him/her entry into the chapel, especially if he/she is going to attend Mass without causing any disturbance or canvassing.

  • Yes, but they can certainly give you the old"hairy eyeball" and make you uncomfortable, ostracize you, cut you cold, and be down right rude. That makes it hard to keep sticking around. And if you are "politely" shown the door, not many people would refuse to take it and stick around anyway. The Catholic Church should welcome all, as you say. But evidently the SSPX doesn't think the "sinners" need to stick around to hear an edifying sermon or pray, most likely since they are going to be denied absolution and Communion anyway. So therefore, heinous sins like murder, rape, pedophilia can be forgiven, but not ever saying a word that is not the party line. Now, that is unforgivable.
