  • Need I mention, as trads so often do, that just because a pope may have said or done something, it does not mean it was infallible, correct, or even advisable?

  • Of course it wasn't an infallible action.
However, the winner gets to write the history books and the Confederacy was not as evil as it was made out to be, nor was Lincoln as great a man as he is portrayed. In fact Lincon's imperal behavior paved the way for presidents to incrementally increase dictatorial rule with more and more executive orders/actions. You might view it as Lincoln pulling the lever on the crapper to flush the US Constitution, it's just taking a while for the flushing to finish.

Slavery would have ended even without the war between the states.

I just wanted to mention historical trivia as well as hear other people's thoughts on this. I know there are a few fans of the Confederacy here as well.

  • Contemporary America embraces and funds with tax dollars abortion.  Allows gαy marriage.  Is a masonic state from top to bottom.  Divorce is common.  Small families are the norm because the culture teaches that children are not a gift from God but a burden to be avoided.

I think the CSA was a big step up morally from the contemporary USA.

Pius IX probably recognized the USA as a masonic and evil state that would become rapacious in it's ugliness.

Pius IX probably did not foresee the invention of the atomic bomb and how the US would drop bombs incinerating women and children, largely for the fun of it because Japan was already trying to surrender as early as 1943 (and even if this isn't so, incinerating women and children in war is no different that what the nαzιs have ever done.)  The dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the proverbial "baptism" of the U.S. Air Force.

Piux IX, being a holy priest and great Pope, probably prayed daily for the leaders of the US.

There's nothing inappropriate about recognizing the CSA.

Africa today has the slave trade, the UN knows about it and won't do a thing to stop it.

    Bergoglio probably recognizes these countries.

It's a tough world out there.
