  • "I could care less"  irritates me to no end.  I hear it like fingernails on a blackboard.

That's what they usually mean but they don't say couldn't they say the opposite that's why it bothers me.

  • I hate "moving forward"- it seems that every modern business educated person uses that phrase, I guess as a segue to another subject or to end the last one.
It's just so overused that it has become trite and inauthentic, kind of like "gravitas". Kind of like code linguistics for being corporate or something. ( I hate that one too.)
I do say "my bad". Check.

"my bad" seems like a teeny bopper saying, maybe bc that's where i 1st heard it
I hate when people begin a sentence with "Look..."
    or "Listen..."
sounds as if they are speaking down to the person (so it seems to me, for whatever that is worth)

  • "Knock on wood"
    "Fingers Crossed"

People at my office say this all the time. They also claim to be Christian, it is really sad, the one who says it the most is a fallen away Catholic who goes to a prot "church" now.

  • "It's not personal, it's business" or some variation thereof.

Business effects everyone's personal life, so yes, it is personal. Every. Single. Time.

i thought those sayings went out in the 80s?
    well, the first one.
anyway, 1 reason people don't say Pray, or whatever, instead of "fingers crossed" is b/c prayer is discouraged in public. I like when i see people praying over their meals in a public place, but that is rare.
I don't like either of those either

  • "Irregardless".  It's not a word.  Say "regardless" or "irrespective," but don't jam the two together.

I also am annoyed to no end by "I could care less."  As pointed out above, it means the exact opposite of what the speaker is trying to express.

  • Also "millennial speak" irks me to no end, even though I am of that generation.

There are constant "filler" phrases added to sentences in conversation--"you know," "I mean," "I feel like,"--that just make people sound stupid.

  • I don't like to see "in regards to" when in should be "in regard to". But I see it often on this site.

  • i tend to like the dismissive, sometimes derisive sounding word

whatever. I mean some people's absurd, disingenuous or lying comments just deserve that word.

  • For some reason, I can't stand it when folks type "FYI", its so detestable, rude sounding and leaves a bad feeling to a message.
Many people say "For the Honor and Glory of God!" but, what they should say is "For the Love, Glory and Honor of God". - Fr. Paul of Moll
