It's no secret that there are thousands of inactive CI members, I've always been curious as to why. I would guess that most could choose multiple reasons, but try to name the primary.
-
If someone is no longer active, how are they going to see this poll?

If someone is no longer active, how are they going to see this poll?
Cute, but "[in]active" means that they do not post as often, or at all, not that they no longer look at CI.
-
Don't know who's inactive/active, but I do there are a lot of paid infiltrators on here.

I thought this same thing.

Maybe it should have been listed as reply little or just read? That might have made more sense.

I’ve not posted as much as formerly the last few weeks due to the immature behavior of a certain person, formerly known as Croix, but it may be another person(s) as well. I do not engage in puerile behavior more suited to platforms like TikTok, X, or FB. This person(s) is unable/unwilling to have an adult conversation. Instead of responding thoughtfully, he name-calls, makes false accusations about others (and myself) pertaining to matters he cannot possibly know. In particular, I do not think I’m alone in not wishing to read about or be called crypto-Jew, Boomer, feminist, fαɢɢօt, mutt, commie, libtard, bastard, (insulting my deceased parents), immodest, etc.
While each has his own opinion as to whether he likes, dislikes, Jews, Blacks, people of nationalities other than 100% White, that is not the reason Matthew created this forum.
To quote from the bottom of this page, CathInfo “is a message board with Catholic news and information for traditional Catholics living in the modern world.”
What I’m seeing recently is multiple threads whose main topics are about the superiority or inferiority of those of a certain races and ethnic backgrounds, not as they relate mainly to Catholicism, but to the poster’s personal opinion presented as if he speaks for God, Himself. Those who disagree or attempt to redirect the conversation towards intelligent, Christ-like discourse get called names.
This person knows who he is. I’m calling for him to censor himself or to get off of CI. Find a forum that centers upon those of like opinions and manners of expression about those topics in particular.
If his goal is to drive all others away and/or to cause Matthew to shut down CI, WHY? Remember, we are all answerable to Christ at our particular judgments for every idle word. Just because the internet didn’t exist at the time Our Lord gave this warning does not exclude our speech used online. If he has some sort of anger problem, hatred in his heart towards those who wronged him, or is perhaps a 13 year old in an adult body, he should get counseling from a priest or a older man who is proven himself wise.
(If I wanted to deal with immature middle school boys, I could easily update my NYS 6-8 teacher’s certification and get a job in the public middle school ten blocks from my house. School is starting soon and public schools, middle through high school, are lacking teachers and applicants.)
IOW, Croix, Soft Pillow, or whoever you are, stick to topics as related to Catholicism, and speak like an adult.

Yes. Paid infiltrators who post under various names.
And this is allowed to continue.

Concur wholeheartedly.
I will give Matthew one piece of advice to handle this, and only one, because it's not my place to tell him how to run his forum: you are a busy father of several and husband. You're looking for work, running a chapel, doing all sorts of things. Look into hiring some mods. 5-6 trusted members of the forum who have the power to delete posts, ban people, etc.
Some places are run well by just two people. Your tiny strip mall Chinese place that fits a pound of food in a Styrofoam box is a good example. A forum of five figures? Hmm.

I might know who you are, but have you thought about maybe some of the things he calls you are true like you being a feminist and boomer? I notice a lot of trad women on this forum act like this and aren't called out that often. Should this forum be geared towards the feelings of women?
You use feminist and boomer like bad words and you justify it because you think it is true. If you know that these words will trigger someone to behave poorly, should you use them? Are you doing the serpents work by tempting a women to sin?
If a women said you were young and naive, would you say "Oh. Thank you for noticing. I will try to become more mature by listening and learning. It is actually really selfish to think that you have more wisdom than an older person.
This forum shouldn't be geared to anyone's emotions, but if we were exactly what we should be, then we would all be saints and probably not spend time here on CI.

It's definitely geared towards your emotions. Ever since you arrived, it's been constant drama and attention-seeking from you. Well feminist is something you shouldn't be and 'boomer' has the meaning it does because of the entitled, out of touch, insensitive boomer generation. If a boomer doesn't act like a boomer, then they won't be called that, it's that simple. A lot of old people are not that smart but they think they're owed respect because they're old lol. And a lot of them don't respect young people's opinions. You can learn from an old person's mistakes so you don't screw up your life but that doesn't mean they're advice is good.

Not everyone here on CI thinks the same as you. The drama comes from two people engaging in drama. A person cannot have drama all by themselves.
You want respect, then you have to give it.

You seem to create drama out of thin air. Maybe practice being meek and docile for once and you might get some respect. A woman constantly yapping away and not listening is going to be seen as a clown.

The only thing about which he is correct is the time period of my birth. 1956. Since “Boomer” has become an insult, there are better words with which to convey my age. Since when is the date one’s birth something bad? God chose it without my input just as He chooses the date of my death. You think you know me? If so, please state what makes me a feminist. My birth year doesn’t make me a feminist, so you’ll need to get more specific. Make a list and I’ll be glad to confirm or deny most of them, FYI.
I see you don’t include the other insults, so you must know they’re likely untrue.
This forum should be geared to the feelings of others, male or female, within the constraints of Truth and Christian charity.

My reason for not posting much anymore is that there are better forums.
False.
At least if by "forums" you mean "Traditional Catholic forums". I know there are much larger forums for topics like gardening and tractors.
Firstly, I see you're still keeping an eye on CathInfo. No one is even keeping an eye on those "other forums". So let's get that out of the way.
There are no "better forums" than CathInfo. CathInfo is the largest, most active BY FAR Traditional Catholic Forum on the Internet.
Right off the bat, website-based "message boards" or forums are not exactly popular anymore. Everything is going to social media (a few huge websites: facebook, youtube, twitter, etc.) and Discord now (which isn't permanent, searchable, or indexed by search engines).
You might prefer "no forum" which is what most Trads go with -- and choosing a micro-forum or a forum with almost no traffic is pretty much the equivalent of this.
You might do a bit of Facebook or other "mainstream social media", talking to people IRL, or even resorting to pagan non-Catholic friends in lieu of Traditional Catholic friendships and interaction.
Lukewarm, worldly Catholics seem to go with this option the most. They aren't into "church stuff" outside of Mass once a week, so they don't see the need to seek out Trads specifically for friendships, etc. They just live like everyone else in the world.
But you can't really say there are other CathInfos out there that are better.
If they are better, how are they better? Less traffic? 5 posts a day? A couple dozen like-minded friends? An echo chamber? Highly moderated?
I know I'm the moderator, so I'm a bit biased, but I like to think I'm doing the best job a man can do as moderator FOR A FORUM OF THIS SIZE. For smaller, lesser forums, it's easy to "perfectly moderate" or micro-manage a forum with 1 dozen active members and almost no daily traffic.
The only real thing you can criticize about CathInfo is the "mission statement", the leadership itself, the moderation style. Do you have a problem with free speech? Discussion of cօռspιʀαcιҽs? Free discussion on various positions on the Crisis in the Church? Those are things I have to own as Moderator and which I will defend to the death.
And the fact that no other Trad forum has surpassed CathInfo -- not even come close -- is a vindication of my moderation policy (and the fundamental "mission statement" of CathInfo over other possible mission statements).

You're taking it personally. How do you think Millenials and GenZs feel about being made fun of? If you're not that stereotype of a boomer, then it shouldn't offend you. Why are you offended for your generation? You should know the stereotype of Boomers within your peers. The fact that you're getting really offended maybe means that it's true and you're projecting. Or you lack thick skin. I don't care about the other insults but the fact that you're clutching your pearls means you're overthinking the situation. If what is said isn't true about you, then why does it affect you?

I know this isn't directed at me, but i want to know how many times Millenials and GenZs has been used on CI, like you are using "boomer"? Is there anyway to find the comparison?
Side note: It seems to me that if the shoe was on the other foot and a term you didn't like was being used you would "clutch your pearls" as well. I think we need to admit we all have emotional reactions and if we were truly trying to do right by God, we wouldn't let our emotions take away from a discussion of different opinions.
Personal attacks are never needed to make a point in a discussion. If you have to resort to being personal, then you probably lost your position in the discussion.

People make fun of boomers, because generally speaking, the generalizations are true. If one is taking it personally, that's on them. A generalization is not a personal attack. Don't be a snowflake.

Matthew, your stewardship of CathInfo has kept it at the center of the traditional Catholic world for nearly two decades. It remains the one place where much of the Resistance was preserved, long before the rise of video platforms or new apostolates. That is something God will reward.
But because of that influence, I ask this with sincerity. Would you consider creating a separate section, like the Feeney subforum, for those who are holding fast to the hardline position of Archbishop Lefebvre and the pre-2012 stance of Bishop Williamson?
There are many souls just now coming into the fight. They are discovering the crisis in the Church, and then the crisis within the Resistance. They are not here to stir trouble. They are searching for clarity, and many are asking real questions about serious errors that can no longer be ignored: the promotion of Novus Ordo miracles, the silence on conditional ordinations, and the cover-up of immoral clergy.
These issues deserve a place where they can be addressed without shutting down discussion. Not because anyone demands “free speech,” but because truth must be safeguarded, and error must be corrected. That is Catholic. That is charity.
You have always exercised great responsibility over this forum. All we are asking is that a space be opened for those who are trying to remain exactly where Archbishop Lefebvre always stood. Not behind him. Not ahead of him. Right where he stood.
For the good of souls, it is time.

And I will keep this anonymous to tell Matthew congrats, CI is far and away bar none the best trad forum out there, due in large part to your moderation.

How is that any different from the forum itself, for example the "SSPX Resistance" subforum? That's precisely what this forum is for.
It's difficult to go about policing different points of view, allowing some, disallowing others, in the various threads there. That would be a TON of moderating work.
-
People make fun of boomers, because generally speaking, the generalizations are true. If one is taking it personally, that's on them. A generalization is not a personal attack. Don't be a snowflake.
Ok. But ask yourself, what was your purpose in calling me a snowflake? It is this behavior that is unappealing and needs to stop. This is how "boomer" has been used in past discussions. You would have respectfully made your point if you left off the last sentence, but you decided to add drama with a personal jab.
And to be clear I find humor in the hypocrisy, it just means we all have a long way to go to get to Heaven. :cowboy:
-
If you have a meltdown over the term snowflake, you just might be one.
-
If you have a meltdown over the term snowflake, you just might be one.
This is a funny statement.
It can be taken at face value as just a comment.
Or it can be interpreted as a direction for the person who just made a comment on the term.
The only person who knows what was intended is the poster.
Is this not away to produce drama?
-
Thank you, Matthew. I truly understand what you are saying. But this is not about asking for more moderation. It is actually about asking for less.
Right now, threads that respectfully raise serious concerns about Bishop Williamson or his network are often shut down, even when they are calm, factual, and posted in the Resistance section. Many faithful have been labeled, dismissed, or even banned simply for holding to the same principles Bishop Williamson himself defended before 2012.
What some of us are asking for is not a second Resistance forum, but a space within the one that already exists where Catholics can remain firmly rooted in Archbishop Lefebvre’s clear position without being treated as divisive or extreme. These are not fringe opinions. They are the very principles that built the Resistance in the first place.
New souls are discovering the battle every day. They are coming from the Novus Ordo, from indult communities, from the Neo-SSPX, and they are looking for clarity. They are not here to cause division. They are asking real questions, and they deserve space to find solid ground.
There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Catholics today who hold this same position. Many of them have been pushed to the margins or scattered across different platforms. But if a clear space were provided on CathInfo, I am confident that many of them would return. With a bit of encouragement, conversation would begin flowing again from those who only left because they had nowhere else to go.
If there is room on CathInfo for Feeneyites, Sedevacantists, and all manner of theological discussion, then surely there can be room for those who are simply trying to hold the line where Archbishop Lefebvre always stood.
This would not increase your burden. It would bring clarity and stability. And it would strengthen the forum’s original purpose.
Thank you again for all the work you have done to keep this place alive. Many of us still believe CathInfo has a vital role to play. We simply ask that there be space for Catholics who refuse to move one inch from the foundation the Archbishop gave us.
Just for clarity. Do you remember the names of some of the threads that were shut down? Also can you articulate a list of the certain positions from Archbishop Lefebvre that you think are in jeopard?
-
I miss the 2012-2016 era of CI. Yes there were trolls (PtM) and female drama (anyone remember DM?) but it didn't shut down valuable conversation of the real issues that traditional Catholics are facing. We enjoyed great threads by some of the OG members....Telesphorus, Sean Johnson, hollingsworth, Cantate Domino, Amicus, people I can't even remember anymore but I know I learned so much. We weren't distracted by endless threads from swastika-stanning edgelords and housewives blaming every Y-chromosome for their domestic misery.
I'm really enjoying The Inquisitors podcasts. I wish we could dial in live and submit questions via chat. It seems that CI could support a more interactive format if the interest were there. I think it would really appeal to the younger audience that traditional Catholicism is starting to attract. There is also a lot of isolation amongst our ranks and it might help lift the spirit of our lonely members. I would be willing to buy a membership to log into the lives so that identity could be verified.
Just my two cents.

It is about holding the same positions Archbishop Lefebvre always held, positions now treated as extreme only because others have moved.
Examples?
-
Don't know who's inactive/active, but I do there are a lot of paid infiltrators on here.
Who is paying Matthew for countermeasures?

Don't know who's inactive/active, but I do there are a lot of paid infiltrators on here.
You make it sound like that's a bad thing!
You do realize, of course, that the presence of agents/infiltrators would only serve to prove that CathInfo is an important, or at least a noteworthy, hangout.

It's actually kind of funny, in a pathetic way, when you think about it. A person whose chief boasts are the attributes that he did not choose or earn; heritage (race), gender, and age.

I've already stated my reasons. I'm still the all-time top poster here on CI (sort by number of posts in the Members area).
1) Croix has turned the forum into a total joke. He gets "banned", comes back, the Moderator knows he's back but just laughs it off and then lets him run amok again, and his behavior is puerile and idiotic, lowering the level of discourse here by many notches. He also could very well be a fed, having boasted of access to various non-public sources of intelligence, and making such over-the-top comments as to be nothing short absurd caricatures of the worst kind of racism ... that only someone trying "too hard" could even cook up, i.e. attempting to act as an agent provocateur could ever make such comments (short of his having serious psychological problems).
I find it embarrassing to participate in this stupidity.
2) Several Posters (mostly the sedevacantists) here who get away with slandering public figures with impunity, alleging that their conversions are fake, that they're Masonic Luciferian sun worshippers, and infiltrators ... and this is key ... WITHOUT a shred of credible evidence for those claims, clearly just made out thin air over bitterness about the fact that their targets are not lifelong sedevacantists. While certain amount of speculation and theorizing, based on actual evidence, can be helpful and useful, the allegations that are simply made up cannot be excused of calumny and/or slander. But the calumn and slander continue with impunity here, and I will not be party to it.
I find it morally repugnant to see the torrents of slander and calumny issuing from those who pretend to be morally superior Trads.
3) Increasing frustration over people who string together one fallacy after another, often blending in lies ... in order to justify positions they've taken for various emotional reasons, and then, after being, corrected ... simply regurgitating the very same fallacies.
I find that I need the old "Glenn Beck" duct tape wrapped around my head to keep it from exploding.

IOW, CI should have a Hewko-Cult subforum.
Nice brown-nosing, BTW.

There’s no reason we cannot discuss Fr. Hewko unless someone cannot refrain from insulting, slandering him, or the opposite, presenting him as one of the only two real priests left on the face of the earth! There’s no need for a sub-forum.
It is the paragraph concerning Croix and Croix-like behavior that should stop. If Matthew has his email and knows his true identity, he should contact him IRL, maybe on the phone, like, the old-school way. Speak to him and let him know his antics aren’t amusing. If a face to face conversation can be had, that’s even better.

Not boasts, not “chief” attributes or anything. Just two points meant as personal criticisms that are simply facts.
If anyone would like a list of my boast-worthy characteristics, contact me privately and I’ll tell you the name of my confessor or the closest thing to a confessor that I have.

I completely agree. Whatever Croix’s intent may be, the result is undeniable. The atmosphere shifts the moment he enters. Threads collapse into nonsense. Serious conversation is buried. The tone becomes juvenile, chaotic, and frankly beneath anyone trying to hold a Catholic line.
Whether he is a provocateur or simply unstable, the effect is the same. It drains the forum of credibility. And for those trying to engage in good faith, it makes participation feel more like damage control than discussion.
It is not just embarrassing. It is corrosive.

If Ladislaus decided to spend time on being a moderator, you can bet that this influx of indultism which has increasing grown over the last few years would be wiped out fast.
This is supposed to be a Trad forum yet all these Modernist-lite characters increasingly defend their compromises. It’s a shame. But maybe it’s the true reflection of the world out there? Heaven forbid.
I share most of Lads frustrations. I’m glad he hasn’t left.

The major ones missing in this list are SpiritusSanctus and Telesphorus. Telesphorus, not Matthew, was the member who initially attracted me to CathInfo. SS and Telesphorus were, at one time, in the top five most prolific and highest-rated members. Those were better times for CathInfo. They had a break with Matthew and started ABLF 1.0 forum, which was a disaster due to being inundated with DawnMarie and her followers. And they were intimidated by this fake seer.
CathInfo was best from it's beginning until ggreg, around 2012-2013.

1) Croix has turned the forum into a total joke.

You can stay fat; and you referencing an NFL franchise shows how much of a worldling you are, fatty. Go ahead and say the name of the "town" as if it matters. That was a long time ago. But I do know you.
I. KNOW. YOU. I. SEE. YOU.

The best posters in CathInfo history:
1) Croix de Fer - one reason, among many, the guy literally warned of a plandemic for years leading up to Covid; but other posts were great, too, especially on the jews and Catholic literature contributions
2) Syracuse
3) St. Frumentius
4) Judith 15 Ten
5) Freddy Jooger

Croix loves to play the whack a mole game with Matthew. The only way to limit his impact on the forum is for every forum member to ignore him.
I don't think ignoring is working.
-
The fem "trads" overrunning this forum is what turns me off to it. Their errors are all over the spectrum ranging from criticizing Catholics who want to preserve their race to defending Christ-haters to simply yapping off like neurotic hens and refusing to concede to being corrected by generous contributor who give them answers. Gray2023 is just one quintessential example among many. Then they cry victim when somebody calls them out on it. What's alarming is the few men here willing to call them out on it, and these fems continue to be allowed here. They're even worse than the crypto-jews here, although there is some overlap with the crypto-jews since some are the same as the fem hens and fem cows.
Karen Katholics — are a major problem. Leading so many people astray. As the old saying goes, they dont know what they don’t know.

When he was at Winona, he wore his seminarian cassock while doing roofing work in 100 degree weather as a public display of his self-mortification. Our Lord tells us to be private about our offerings and prayers to Him. Laszlo is merely an academic. That's all he is but it takes a lot more than an academic to be a real man. This is the same guy who, several times on this forum, admitted he will roll over and cower to the jews when they come to seize him and his family.
One person's control freak is another person's love of truth, when speaking of the Faith. Everybody has personality defects. I still trust Lad to be impartial and fair if he were a moderator.
I don’t believe Winona had a sauna room. Sounds like Lad just wanted a good summer sweat.
-
I think that it's good at this stage for people to continue to communicate the contempt that Croix's behavior has earned him, whether that take a passive form, i.e. ignoring him, or something more active, i.e. direct confrontation, mockery, etc.. Most likely he'll never seek the help he clearly needs until he has a deep break, a "dark night of the soul".

Still think my idea was pretty good, if it's possible: A "report account" feature can be implemented where an account, if it receives lets say 3-4 reports, will be frozen until Matthew makes a final decision. Ideally this feature would be available only to long-standing "Hero Members"

The discourse on this platform is no longer the same. It IS a circular firing squad and the subject matter people are shooting at is not at all compelling but is repetitive and mundane, at least to me.
Traditional Catholics should call out and argue the evil that is evident in the Church and in the world, but it seems that here the joy of salvation in Christ and the great gift of Catholicism is secondary, if not absent most of the time. It depresses me. There is also a lot of ganging up. I don't know if that's organic or from outside influence.
Just sayin'.

I agree with this. As unimpressive as the men are, the women are many times worse. I've often wondered why women are even on these forums. The crypto VoxClamantis started Fisheaters, the crypto or heavily-Judaized Clare started Ignis Ardens. On ABLF 1.0 I saw almost all the men (including Mithrandylan, Telesphous, SpiritusSanctus, and TMW89) intimidated by a fake seer Bishop Williamson took seriously.
It's a good thing I have an appetite for perversity or I would lose my mind.
If this post was by Croix, oh well. He sometimes gets things right.

That's because you have a loud mouth and don't want to be a 'doormat'. Maybe you should work on not making a mountain out of a molehill.

OP here. I agree, especially with the bolded. It seems to me that in any group members tend to take on a certain role, even if they and others are not consciously aware of it at the time. I think that the last consistently stabilising force for the forum was Nadir and no one else has stepped into that role. I'm not saying that I agreed with every jot and tittle, but it was easy to tell that, if nothing else, she came from a saner time/ society than those of us younger. Not sure what to do about that, but we're going to have to figure out something...

Nadir was heavily Judaized. I'm pretty Judaized. Why else would I participate on "coed" forums for so long?
The Church has always taught the strict segregation of the sexes.

I don't think ignoring is working.
Just for clarity. Early this morning Croix went on a rampage. He started several posts and made just random comments everywhere. Thanks to the moderators most of it was taken care of. My comment was because he went soooo crazy. Most didn't even see it.
Jack OTrad and Resist Croix accounts were banned. I don't think Croix has posted under a new account yet?
I am concerned about the new accounts timzee and CatholicPollinator, but we will only know if he starts posting.
Prayers for all.
-
Thankyou mods for your swift work.
Croix is unhinged. I pray he finds the help he needs.
-
I don't think ignoring is working.
He just wants attention, if no one interacts with him or pays attention to him he will be bored and will go somewhere else.

Sorry you don't understand the purpose of an anonymous subforum. Adults sometimes forget that children have access to it also. You see, we all know Matthew and Mater see who the posters are, we just don't want all the members to know.
Maybe matthew will one day start a subforum just for you kiddies.
-
You don't have to participate in the anonymous forum? I personally like it as I can express my honest thoughts.
So ---- are you saying your other posts are dishonest?
-
Yes. It's become a hideout for hit-and-run know-nothing cowards.
The Anonymous forum is still moderated, you know. In fact, the exact same standards are enforced as on the rest of the forum.
Allowed/intended purpose:
"My wife is extremely distant and I think she's cheating on me. What should I do?"
"I am having temptations against the Faith. What should I do?"
"Do you know any good home remedies for (insert health condition here)?"
"My SSPX chapel brought in a Conciliar priest today to say Mass. Has anyone else experienced this?"
See, there's nothing in the above content that's against the rules. However, it's extremely sensitive, so I could understand a user not wanting to post with his own name when contributing such posts.
Abuse of the Anonymous forum -- posts that will be moderated and/or the user permanently banned:
"Y'all suck! And you don't know who I am, so you can't even downthumb me! Bwahaha!"
"Ok you (expletive) Jew. Get the hell out of here!"
"I think all the women on here stink! And I won't let you know who I am either!"
"Should we ban (insert username here)? I think he's the bane of the forum!"
"I think Hitler should be canonized." (posted in the Anonymous forum, due to its unpopularity and to stave off downvotes)
In conclusion, it's NOT ROCKET SCIENCE. There's not even a grey area. It's always black and white, at least for someone who understands basic rules. If you're using the Anonymity as a cloak for malice, it's abuse. If it's to protect your good name (NOT your CI rep score) and/or LEGITIMATELY prevent embarrassment, it's OK.
If there is a grey area, it's the "unpopularity" clause. But let's put it this way -- I reserve the right AT ANY TIME to put your name to whatever "unpopular opinion" you post in Anonymous. I will never embarrass anyone over a legitimate issue (health, family issue, marital issue, spiritual issue, various sufferings, anonymous whistleblowing, etc.
YOU KNOW when you're abusing the subforum. And so do I. In short, I can moderate the post, unmask the poster, ban the user -- OR ALL THREE. It's up to me. You take that risk Every. Single. Time. you post in this subforum.
CathInfo is a moderated forum. Including the Anonymous subforum. No part of the forum is a free-for-all.
-
And for those unaware, there is a "Report to Moderator" link at the bottom right of every single post -- including posts in the Anonymous subforum. Just make sure it's actually breaking the rules, not merely disagreeing with you.
At this time, to the best of my knowledge, there are 0 posts in Anonymous that break the rules.
Go ahead, prove me wrong. But if you think I'm going to read through all the posts in Anonymous to find violations, you're insane. CathInfo is too popular and active a forum for that. And I have WAY too much of a life for that.
-
So ---- are you saying your other posts are dishonest?
You’re manipulative….
-
Primary reasons: Ad hominem attacks and because you can't be trad enough, there is always someone more trad than you :fryingpan:. This thread is already becoming the type that turns me off.
I've been holding off on answering this thread. Not because I don't have many things I could say regarding why I am no longer active, but mostly because I wonder whether it matters/will matter to even say them. It has been apparent for quite some time that nothing will change here.
I will just say that I agree with the poster above that this thread is a good example of at least some of the issues with this forum. And to be fair to Croix, he isn't the only member that contributes to/causes these issues. I think it's easy to just blame it all on him. Ironically, certain of the members who have posted in this very thread are also part of the problem.
-

"nothing will change here"
"issues with this forum"
Can you be more specific? Let's get to the heart of the matter. What is FUNDAMENTALLY wrong with this forum? I've asked myself this question countless times whenever people like you throw out criticism like this (deserved or undeserved). Just to be safe, you know?
And you know what I came up with? The best I can come up with is: FALLEN HUMAN NATURE. Original Sin.
Every large group of people has issues, because it has human beings. Human beings have fallen human nature (Original Sin). They commit sins. They have a darkened intellect, so they get things wrong, they don't see things clearly, they are prone to error. Their logic, reason, intellect does NOT work perfectly. They are proud, they lie, they manipulate, they argue, they fight, they belittle, they are attached to their opinions out of pride. They are loathe to ever consider that they might have been wrong about something for years. They are quick to dish out "justice" to others. They enjoy feeling superior to their neighbor. They love -- or need -- to be on the right side, the winning side, or both.
The alternative is "Oh no, those aren't real issues at all. I know lots of large forums the size of CathInfo that have none of these problems. The problem is Matthew, who sets the tone for the forum with his leadership: his beliefs, worldview, moderation style, position on the Crisis, etc."
To which I would call BS. That is simply not true, not reality.
It's true that a leader plays a real role and has a real effect on whatever he leads. Whether it's a club, a forum, a chapel, a state, or a country. The leader is a huge part of what each forum IS. He decides who gets banned, who gets to stay, what topics are encouraged, what topics are forbidden, etc. His overall attitude (towards the world, for example) is obviously going to be more welcome than the contrary. If he were a solid Traditional Catholic, he would tend to prefer such members, and worldly/bad Catholics would start out on automatic "probation". Likewise, if the leader were worldly, a bad Catholic, divorced/remarried, etc. then that would flavor the forum as well, basically preferring liberals and only tolerating the serious Catholics. Such a forum might use terms like "Toxic Trads" and "Rad Trads" often, and these terms would be encouraged from the top down. See: Fisheaters.
Last but not least, the "issues with this forum" are never the same from year to year. I wish I had a dollar for every member who left whose reason for leaving is no longer valid. I'd be able to buy myself something very nice. I have the perspective of someone who's been here for the whole 19 years of CathInfo's history, remember.
"CathInfo has become SedeInfo"
"CathInfo has become FlatEarthInfo"
"CathInfo has become FeeneyInfo"
"CathInfo has become TrumpInfo"
"CathInfo has become TelesphorusInfo"
"CathInfo has become PocheInfo"
"CathInfo has become CroixInfo"
How can it be all of these things at the same time? That doesn't even make sense. How about it's NONE of them -- just CathInfo, a group of hundreds of members, all serious and devout Catholics, whose favorite topic changes from week to week and month to month. If you don't like the weather, just wait an hour.

As a newer member I don't have too much to post but I am still quite active. I guess Cathinfo users need to work on personal sanctity and not use webforums as an excuse to backslide (I am guilty of this).
-
I might know who you are, but have you thought about maybe some of the things he calls you are true like you being a feminist and boomer? I notice a lot of trad women on this forum act like this and aren't called out that often. Should this forum be geared towards the feelings of women?
I think there are a few women on this forum who spend too much time here rather than creating somethings for theirs families use.
-
You use feminist and boomer like bad words and you justify it because you think it is true.
Eh while it's true that older people SHOULD have more wisdom than the young, have you seen most adults in today's world? They are blind fools. Look at how they accepted covid and mass immigration and other things. There are many trads (not on this forum) who perfectly fit the boomer and feminist archetype, why is this?
-
It's definitely geared towards your emotions.
Also access to information online has allowed younger people to overtake the older people in knowledge, the older people struggle to use the tech. Information asymmetry is a real thing and we live in the age of information.
-
The only thing about which he is correct is the time period of my birth.
Boomer is not about age but about beliefs, these people in particular tend to have typical Jєωιѕн subversion as their beliefs.
>oh immigration is good

I wonder if Telesphorus ever succeed in his quest for love.

It's because most topics have a logical outcome that some chose to ignore in favor of personal opinions. Other topics however require the judgement of the Church to clarify.

Boomer is not about age but about beliefs
This is correct. By age my parents were "Silents" but by ideology they were 100% Boomers. I attribute this to them both going to university in their mid 20's and being infected by liberal thinking which was contrary to their backgrounds and generation.
-

Boomers were literally wrong. They had incredible opportunity compared to everyone else. The difference is the younger generation can actually see they are right due to DATA. You cannot deny house prices, wages, inflation, most woman aren't virgins by 16, immigration etc. Boomers did not have these problems. Yet they refuse the acknowledge the REALITY they live in. This refusal is why people don't like 'boomers'.
>Hey look at all these problems we have that you voted for

Reality is precisely what this is about. You can compile a veritable mountain of data, but that will only reflect a PART of reality, not the whole. See, for all the posts made bemoaning the impossibility of, well, pretty much EVERYTHING good, I know people in real life, dozens and dozens, who are making their way through this life in a very Catholic way. When I think about it, it's almost like our Lord was serious about His promises. /s
There's an old saying, "figures never lie, but liars always figure". Do you not recognize that you often promote the smug despair that the enemy desires? You mention "Jєωιѕн subversion" above, do you not recognize that maybe you've been more subverted than many? A jew agent couldn't do a better job of trying to discourage souls. In the midst of a group who, by definition of being Catholic, should be able to embrace any and every obstacle with joy, we have the liar's voice demanding that we see only impossibility? We should have a non-stop pity party and an entitlement mentality worse than any "boomer" I've ever met? Are we entitled in this "information age" to be so F***ing ignorant of how hard life was for our forebears that we should wallow in complaints?* If I really thought that was the Catholic Faith, I'd say, "to hell with It" in a heartbeat!
I'm the OP of this thread. All of the choices listed, including "other", are factors in why I do not spend as much time here as previous, but I had to take a day or two to consider what the primary reason is before I could choose. Number 1 was a close contender, but I finally chose no. 4. I've been very much guilty at times of every one of the faults mentioned above, but I'm starting to realize that life is too important to waste it with a doom-scrolling loser's mentality.
*For an example, thanks to modern technology, a couple of years ago I was able to find ~60 pages of docuмents detailing the effects on a direct ancestor of mine of being a prisoner of war.

>you can marry a women after she has had her fun
>trust the government
>take vaccines so I won't get hurt by the flu
etc etc
No one on CI perpetuates these lies.

This is correct. By age my parents were "Silents" but by ideology they were 100% Boomers. I attribute this to them both going to university in their mid 20's and being infected by liberal thinking which was contrary to their backgrounds and generation.
Generalizing from your personal experience in order to negatively label all persons of a certain age is a logical fallacy.

Bravo! You nailed it. Especially this:
Do you not recognize that you often promote the smug despair that the enemy desires?

Wow you have no compassion. The other poster didn't understand the use of 'boomer' so I explained it. No one denies that life wasn't hard for our ancestors but rather there is an out of touch group of people who refuse to recognise that hard work for most people today does not pay off. I know dozens of people in real life (e.g my coworkers) who are struggling in their lives. They work work work but despite it all they barely get by. This is not what the older generations had, especially not the boomers who were so handsomely rewarded it was ridiculous.
Another commenter said that
You're taking it personally.
Seeing how you are acting it seems like my post has greatly effected you. If I wasn't living with my parents I would literally be homeless. Rental vacancies are taken so quickly by immigrants and the prices for rent are even worse than the over priced housing. 5 indians in 1 House can afford to pay the rent, I can't.
I could easily talk about how bad the job market it as well, but I won't and will simply mention that even a experienced and qualified guy like Mathew took months to find a job which he eventually got let go.
Pointing out these things doesn't cause demoralisation, ignoring it does. Nothing worse when the people around you don't care and have no compassion. Like my country men, most are happy that housing is a Ponzi and they have cheap labor. But most my kin are older. Not surprising since 30% of gen Z was aborted.
Talking about problems helps to educate people and make them aware of said problem. If I say nothing then nothing will change. Out of touch 'boomers' need a wake up check, they really don't understand how they pulled the rug from everyone.

I'm less active because there's just too many weird guys on here now. They are either getting paid to make the forum look bad or are crazy. Too many obsessive topics that have nothing to do with Catholicism and while I can't stand simps, I dont want to be around woman haters either and there is suddenly a lot of that here.

Indeed ... this place has been flooded with trolls at an unprecedented rate for the past 2 years, to say nothing of Croix, who keeps returning and at the very best makes a joke out of the forum and at very worst is a fed troll who's constantly making egregiously racist and offensive comments, so over the top that he's clearly TRYing to be as offensive as possible, not just something an individual would normally write or think. I've suspected this for some time now, that he was on here trying to bait Traditional Catholics into his racist garbage just to make us look bad, but then he started to admit that he has access to information about people that is not public. That's to say nothing of the fact that only a fed or else someone who's insane would keep returning after having been banned several dozen times. Even if I were young and thought it was fun to keep doing that, I'd simply get bored after a month or two, not persist in this for years on end.
Either he's dealing with severe mental illness (since his brain is starved of essential fats) or he's a fed.

This is why. The below was posted today by Ladislaus.
"Pathetic and transparent gaslighting attempt by Borat the troll.
No, everyone understands the meaning of positivie doubt, you wicked malicious liar who are aiding, abetting, and enabling the destructions of souls ... working your way toward perdition.
Get lost, you wicked scuмbag."
This post is why I stay. Some posts don’t mince words and that’s needed now and again.

Boomer is not about age but about beliefs, these people in particular tend to have typical Jєωιѕн subversion as their beliefs.
>oh immigration is good
>finding a job is easy
>women can wear pants and dress worse than prostitutes
>you can marry a women after she has had her fun
>trust the government
>take vaccines so I won't get hurt by the flu
etc etc
Sorry, but these don’t describe me at all. Just because I was born during an era of God’s choosing doesn't mean I fit into a man’s category.
>Not Jєωιѕн!
>Most of modern clay immigration is not good. The Christian world and nations are invaded by those who are not legal, who hate Christ and His Church, who refuse to assimilate to national laws and public custom, who steal, assault, rape, traffic, are pedos, murderers, entitled, have low or no morals, who do whatever it takes to impose their pagan culture on Christians, who hate Catholics in particular
>It’s not 1965. Finding a decent job, sometimes any job is difficult.
>Well, women are able (can, and society is okay with it) to wear pants and dress worse than prostitutes, but I wear skirts and dresses, always have, and I certainly don’t dress like a prostitute, much less worse than one. I’m not sure what that would look like, nothing but tattoos?
>Again, a man CAN marry a woman with a past full of promiscuity if that’s what is meant by fun, but no man wants that, even if his past isn’t much better. I haven’t had a fun past and expected Prince Charming to ask my hand in marriage. Female and male Boomers of guilty of this trait. Not to brag, but this doesn’t describe me.
>I haven’t trusted the government since the day Nixon resigned.
>I chose getting fired over getting vaxxed. I’ve refused other vaccines prior to the Scamdemic.

The huge disconnect seems to be one of mindset. Those complaining about what boomers have done to them seem to have no path forward, it's just looking for blame, for an excuse to not adapt and live. So, for the sake of conversation, let's say that, yes, "boomers" have totally screwed you and all future generations. OK. Your complaints and feelings are now completely validated. So now what? The ball is in your court, what's your play?
This is my frustration with, and why I push back against, those that seem to do little except gripe about "boomers". It comes across as a loser's attitude that doesn't do anything good.
Though this video is directed specifically toward "incels", I think it is very relevant to this discussion. Minutes 11:50-13:20 especially express my own thoughts on what I see as the problematic mindset. I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I found an archive of a pension application made by the widow of my ancestor. Several of the affidavits were from people that knew him both before and after his service. A close reading of the docuмents provided some insight into his suffering as well as that of his wife and children. When I'm tempted to feel down about difficulties in life, I remember them and wonder where I got the stupid idea that life is easy or, more especially, where I got the idea that life is supposed to be easy.

There is no vetting process. Although it would be too difficult to implement, but the enemy lurks here in great number. Be very warned, open forums, especially traditional Catholic forums are full of enemies pretending to be Catholic. I saw it on gloria.tv and i see it here. Have Catholic common sense and you will notice them. They insert worldly talk into discussions and blatant anti catholic positions.

What is the problem, exactly? What would you do differently as moderator?
You are annoyed when people are interested in different topics than you. But how would you feel if others wanted to forbid YOU to discuss what interests YOU? Hmmm?
You like free speech for yourself, but not for others.

Yes. This. I will go a step further and add that some of these "enemies pretending to be Catholic" are being paid for their hatred toward Blacks, Mexicans, Jews, women and anyone who dares disagree with their venom. Who would pay for this? A group like the SPLC which can then raise money from quoting the hatred of their shills and painting Trad Catholics with a broad brush as a "hate group". One can be well-aware of the JQ without resorting to hatred. Jesus Christ called us to love our enemies. This venomous hatred is not Catholic.

Also access to information online has allowed younger people to overtake the older people in knowledge, the older people struggle to use the tech. Information asymmetry is a real thing and we live in the age of information.
Hahaha. Only an ignorant person lumps individuals into categories. Some young people think "research" means asking their phone a question. Some older people actually know how to do research which works around the controlled algorithms.

Handomely rewarded? Where do you get this nonsense? Actually, when we struggled to buy our tiny first home, the interest rate was 18% for a home loan. Paying the utlility bills meant I had to decide which one to skip: gas? electric? water? trash pickup? the second loan for the house?
Dinner meant lots potatoes, beans or rice, the cheapest veggies and a small amount of either chicken or the cheapest ground beef.
Shopping for clothes meant the thrift store.
Our grandchildren are struggling because of fake money backed by nothing, increasing inflation thanks to corrupt goverment, Blackrock buying up single family homes and forcing prices up, planned subersion of the food supply, the devastation of the Catholic Church and many other evils which were not caused by any age group.

Simple boomers are older and had all the time to save up. They also have the highest net worth. Boomers have the stereotype they have for a reason.

Touchy, aren’t you?
”Forbid”?
I didn’t know I wield so much authority!
Only Matthew can forbid what’s on his site!
Are you guilty of Modernism? Americanism?
Whats with the “Free Speech?”
That’s heresy.
There’s really no such thing as “free speech” in the Catholic Church,
or in society, either.
My opinion is only that; my opinion, which is of little to no consequence.
🧊 out.

I'm not sure where you live or your age range but the boomers (actual boomers) in my country had incredible opportunity. Any young man working 3-5 years up until the late 80s could easily save up to buy a house outright by living at home with their parents. Even until the mid 2000s housing was still relatively cheap. Obviously before the 90s it was much easier than the early 2000s but things hadn't gone full ponzi just yet. Schooling was also much cheaper. Schools actually taught you skills back then, I know boomers who learnt real life skills in their public schools, unlike mine which had extremely basic cooking, metal and wood working classed (the cooking classes were crap). Personally I don't like modern wood working, there is something very relaxing about creating works made from wood by hand without using powered machinery. Those extremely fast rotating blades are very dangerous and the fine particles is very bad for the lungs.
My boomer parents could fill a shopping cart with meats, cheese and other 'real' foods for under $100 to feed a small family, filling up the tank in their car also cost them less than $20 a week. They may have made less money but their money from a single income (in the 80s) was still enough for a small family to have it good. I don't know about your circuмstances but most boomers do not match what you said.

i used to long for better times too. I believed "things used to be so much better", after all that's what the old people always said. At least, of course, until I'd complain about life being hard, then the response would be something like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ue7wM0QC5LE
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, (besides giving some winning lottery numbers :cowboy: ) I'd probably say something like, "don't waste your time on nostalgia, envious of a past that wasn't yours to live. God gave you now in which to live, and, once in a while, if you cut off the distractions and look, you'll see His Providence, ....... and it's so beautiful."

I'm certainly doing what I can with God's help, but I just don't like certain kinds of people denying the massive advantage they had, it's a denial of their responsibility as elders for making the world a worse and more unholy place for their children.

Take a long hard look at the so-called "greatest generation," the one prior to the 1946 to 1964 generation. If you have a deep emotional need to blame some generation for your problems, blame them.

Too many Charlie Kirk threads.
I started the one seeing that "oh wow, Charlie Kirk is dead" and then had to go to work. Unfortunately, it has devolved into madness with a new wacko thread every 3 hours.
I tell people all the time that they're overanalyzing, that they're thinking too hard. And with this, they absolutely are. Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck and died right there, no reports or confirmation needed. A bullet wound there is not survivable. The end. Someone like him in today's age could not just randomly go into hiding somewhere and not be caught. Be serious right now.
-
Too many gullible looney people here who buy into any lie being peddled, like the so-called "staged" shootings at Charlie Kirk and Trump. If I were a Protestant, Hindu or Buddhist interested in becomming Catholic and visited CI, I'd run for my life away from these nutcases.

Yes! You bring up a crucial problem. I was thinking that after the rainboo Pilgrimage more Catholics are looking for the TRUE RELIGION, and they might visit CI. For 3 months the tone here has improved a bit ...like more respectful, less name calling and then came CKirk!
Plus aren't there some Forum rules that say: do not post antiCatholic opinions etc. Today, someone posted about advice for why he shouldn't join the Orthodox 'church'...! ?
Geremia had a great post re Searching for PDFs, AI material...she said something like' CathInfo would become more scholarly'...Chances are kindda slim for that, but we can pray and hope for an influx of serious Thinkers. Good solid reading goes a long way No?
