Yes, I agree this label is far overused and over-diagnosed.

Just like the SSPX priest who wakes up one day (no doubt with a hankering for something new, and/or to "be his own boss") and decides the SSPX is schismatic, not approved by Rome, not sedevacantist enough, etc. and he leaves.

I'm thinking "who's the idiot who was formed by, and served, said schismatic organization for 15 or 20 years?"
You had no idea what schism looked like before today? And that the SSPX was guilty of it? What is your IQ again?
Who's the bigger fool? The fool, or the fool who follows him?

Every modern woman wants to be the victim, and no one has anything good to say about their ex(es). "They were all abusive, narcissistic..." Yeah, and you chose EACH AND EVERY ONE of them. So whose fault is that?
America doesn't do arranged marriages. You CHOSE him, sister.
ACCOUNTABILITY is kryptonite for the modern woman.

Also, these epiphanies don't usually come during the first year or two of marriage, after the honeymoon wears off and you get to know them truly. No, we're talking many years later, usually when she gets "bored" and/or becomes convinced she can do better (sometimes there is someone at work, etc. that she has in mind).
Then JUST LIKE THAT he was an abusive narcissist with no redeeming qualities.
Yeah, just imagine the stupidity of the woman who would choose a man like that, eh?

And another thing -- if your boyfriend/husband were TRULY a narcissist/psychopath/abuser, he wouldn't let you post critical posts and/or videos about him online. You'd be afraid of him.
Kind of like the fascist racist United States that allows people to criticize and say whatever they want... yeah, real "fascist". Get a dictionary -- and while you're at it, a clue!

Yeah, these people are crazy.

Yes, I agree that it's overused ... generally applied to pride ... but if you were to meet a narcissists, you'd know it.

I've known a couple of individuals with NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder), and there's no disguising it ...

* delusions of grandeur (one I knew said he had been dismissed from seminary because his spiritual directory told him he thought he was God)
* extreme hostility if anyone even indirectly or implicitly criticizes him, resulting in rage
* uses people, where he acts like their best friend ... until even the slightest perceived insult, and he'll turn like a dime from "love" to deep hatred
* pathological lying to make himself seem larger than life (with some lies so over the top that they're absurd)

There was a tyrannical "Director" at one of my jobs who had all these characteristics, and I could go on for hours.

Before I met this individual, I didn't think this was real ... but, oh, it's real alright, and if you encounter it, you'd never forget it or doubt it again.  You can tell that underneath it's actually fueld be extreme insecurity.

I think we're leaning too far into the fantasy part. Unless that's strictly what narcissism is.

How about somebody who doesn't lie about their life, belongings, etc but is selfish to a point of hurting everyone including themselves, is not vain but is willing to take everything from the poor and needy, is generally an honest person but ends up neglecting their children to spend time alone.

Is narcissism really a synonym for "imagination disorder" or is what I described also it.

I was the person who said I knew 3 traditional women married to narcissistic men.  Their husbands fit your above description above to a T.

I am not saying that there aren't bad narcissistic women out there.  They definitely exist but, these are not feminist women.  They never filed for a divorce against their husbands and don't plan to for the sake of their children.  In general most people don't even know that they are married to such men because they try and save face for their husbands.  I only know of them because I am very close to them and one of their few confidants.

Once again I ask simply from those of who you may have known such men and women in real life...  Besides prayer, penance and patience, is there anything that can be done to help gently encourage such husbands to come out of narcissism?
