What are some challenges you experienced as converts?
« on: May 06, 2026, 12:40:17 AM »
I for example, I struggle with rationalism a lot. Because for everything I try to reason with it. A lot of times there are things that I don't know what the Catholic teachings are on them, then I'd just reason with myself (or maybe with God) using logic to convince myself it's a certain way. But then they turned out to be wrong a lot of the times. I have to say having the trad cath AI chatbox helps quite a bit so I can look for answers easier now not just me thinking in my head.
Also I have a Jew in me. I'm very calculated, stingy person that counts on every penny. Growing up I always use pirated content (shows, movies, games, etc.). Now for the games I used to play I actually purchased some of them so that's kind of a restitution. And instead of pirated shows I watch free videos on YouTube for entertainment.

Instead of looking for the Churchs ruling I listen to my subjective perception first, even though it can obviously be horribly wrong about certain things, while clear doctrine can´t be. Very hard to let go of this and just submit.
For example, since I have the same issue and its hard to stop:
You just reminded me pirating copyrighted media is a sin (its stealing after all), even though supporting companies like Amazon and Netflix and such is a stupid thing to do as well, it doesn´t make pirating copyrighted media less of a sin

Will look into CathAI too

Something that helps us to discern what the truth is or is not on any given subject having to do with the faith, is to always remember that there is nothing that can be in any way contradictory within the faith. I like the way Fr. Wathen explains it....

"….All of you know very well, what God has revealed both in the Old Testament and Through Christ and His Apostles, is one doctrine. Not only does it mean one thing, but it is a single, as it were, a single cloth woven from the top so that there are no seams, there is a perfect unity. Therefore, anyone who in any way teaches contrary to any one of it’s doctrines, any part of this holy deposit, violates it’s holiness and of course the truth of God.  And if anyone comes forth and presents a doctrine contrary to it, he necessarily rouses the ire of Almighty God because he substitutes his puny human ideas and preferences to the holiness of the Divine Revelation..."

https://www.voxtraditionis.com/ this is the one I used. I saw that on CI before. It's funky when it comes to SSPX/Resistance questions but for overall catechism it's somewhat helpful.

This is a tough one for me because even if downloading it is a sin, is it still a sin to watch it on those free streaming site that you basically just don't know where they get it from? I struggle a lot to reason it out because it's a virtual thing. If people watch it on TV they don't need to pay extra, but then they do if they want to watch it somewhere else? ... :'(
Anyway at the end of the day I just tell myself if it's not worth paying for it's probably not worth my time watching.
