Victim soul -- anyone have more information on this?
« on: March 08, 2024, 03:50:03 PM »
My TLM confessor told me he thinks I am a victim soul. (Please Matthew keep this anyonymous.) Yes I have had many years of physical suffering, as I know many others on CI (also deceased members) who have had much physical suffering also. But I never asked the Lord for this.

For those familiar with the Church Fathers, do they talk about this? What is the difference between this and everyone who offers up suffering?

Since your TLM priest brought this up , it would be best to take it back to him to answer your questions.

There are many examples in the Church, but you have to be careful, as there are a few possibly false so called victim souls. Again be advised by you priest.

I believe there is no dogmatic teaching by the Church, but there are some assured victims, like St Paul.

A victim soul is one who is given extraordinary suffering for the sake of others, over and above our expected human suffering, which I believe is God’s way of pulling us into line and illustrating our total dependence on Him.

As someone said, there's no strict definition of the term, but generally a victim soul is one who willingly accepts and offers up the suffering for souls ... but in most senses of the term the soul has requested it under the impulse of God's grace.
