  • Do you think it is sinful to watch movies that are violent? For example kung-fu movies. If there is no bad language or sex, but the actors fight each other.

Does the violence break the fifth commandment?  Is it in conjunction with violations of the sixth and ninth?  Or does it portray history or for a noble purpose?  The Passion is a violent movie. I force myself to watch it during Holy Week.  I enjoy war movies that are historically accurate.  I will watch violent docuмentaries if true. It's not a sin to learn history.  The violence in kung fu movies is stylised and, IMO, silly. It's obviously fiction.  I don't think it's sinful to watch them so long as you don't waste a lot of time on them.  Violence for it's own sake is wrong because you could be tempted to imitate the acts.
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • I agree with Frances. I don't think it is sinful. There is a place and time for violent and warfare movies, expecially the ones with historic content.
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

  • Needless violence is sinful, but violence justified (i.e. justice and warfare) is okay to watch.

Kung Fu movies however are stupid.
