  • Has anyone else notice how affected traditionals have become with new age thinking?  I've noticed it in the sedes more than any other group.

    "Sending positive thoughts"

    "Blessings"

    "Thinking positive for you"

All of the above are part and parcel of the new age philosophy.

    You got to be kidding.

Sede or R&R, I would be shocked to hear such wishywashy speech coming from any Trad.

  • A trad with new age thinking is not a trad.

  • Before the 1990's or even 2000 you never heard anyone say God bless.
It was always God bless you.
It didn't start with laziness, it started with people being too embarassed or timid and now even priests and nuns have shortened the blessing.
It's always nice to know who or what you want God to bless.

  • What about: "Many blesssings and good tidings in the New Year".

If you say this to someone does it mean you are a condemned heretic?

  •  Wormword at its finest. Discourage proper wording and thinking
and the masses are controlled. Oh boy what a mess this world is.

Thanks for this post. I usually use 'God bless', but I will use 'God bless you' henceforth!

    ...

I'm sure I remember my parents saying "Good night and God bless" to me throughout the '80s and probably before.

  • I haven't heard trads use this language, except God bless. I refuse to say "positive thoughts" or "positive vibes". The phrases make my skin crawl.

Many trads say God bless or God bless you. Though I don't nitpick when others say it, I personally don't like the phrase. Outside of the father of a family, I think it is only in the priest's power to bless. I do wonder if everyone "blessing" everyone else arose from the idea of universal priesthood but I don't know. At this point it is so common you really can't get wound up by it.

Edit: For some reason "God bless you" after a sneeze seems perfectly ok to me. I am referring more to people randomly blessing each other. I don't know why the difference.

  • Don't we bless ourselves everytime we make the sign of the cross?

An engaged couple would ask for their parents blessing to marry.

Parents on their deathbed gave a final blessing to their children.

And what about parents blessing their children at night or when then leave the house? (albeit even parents who consider themselves traditional don't do it now)

Blessing is not reserved to the priesthood.

I hadn't thought of that. Interesting considering we are literally unable to bless God. He IS blessedness, there is nothing we can add to that. I don't know what to sat about that.

Those are personal and familial examples. Those are granted already because they have positions of authority from God. My difficulty is that random people blessing each other is reminiscent of universal priesthood. I could be wrong, I'd have to see that people blessing each other was the norm even before Protestantism. At that point I could confirm that it's just a personal hang up with no basis in reality. I don't know if or how that could be proven though, which is why I don't worry about it. I know people's intentions are good and I usually leave it at that unless the subject is specifically brought up.
