  • What ever happened to these forums?  One day there were open, and the next day they were deleted, disabled, gone. No warning or explanations were given.

Little to nothing is known about the circuмstances of these message boards' disappearance.

  • ABLF disappeared, quite literally.  Woke up one morning and it was gone, caput, and never heard from SSS again, despite efforts to reach out to him.  There was no warning publicly, nor behind the scenes to us mods.

It's possible that someone "got" to him, but I tend to think not.  We were heavily censured by proboards during the SJB (not CI user SJB) fiasco, and if that didn't run him away, I don't know what would.

Ignis Ardens shut down after the SJB fiasco.  I'm not sure exactly what happened behind the scenes or if that was even the cause, though it seems likely.

ABLF 2.0, I know very little about.  It did not retain either me nor tmw as mods, and was started pretty quickly after ABLF shut down, by Tradfly if I recall correctly.   It attracted most of the Pfeifferite cultists that we banned from ABLF and Tradfly suffered their existence to a far greater degree than we ever did.  I don't know why it shut down, but I would suspect that Tradfly just wasn't all that interested in continuing to constantly referee things.

As to the comment about "tadum" by the guest poster... you mean Te Deum?  Te Deum never shut down.  It underwent a restructuring of management and of focus to a certain degree, moving away from social discussion and mainly just talking about ecclesiastical things.  Voxx started his own forum called "tradcath" and it is where most Te Deum users have gone for more socially-oriented discussion.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

I haven't seen a single trace of SSS in almost 3 years. Like, at all. Hope he's doing well.

I do, too.  I know he lives, that's all.

I think it stood for Sharon Jane Ballantine.  It was "acronymized" because merely typing out her name tended to draw unwanted attention.  And it's a long name anyways.

As memory serves, she was a suspected infiltrator/troublemaker on forums where dissidence against the SSPX's new direction was welcomed and/or supported.  I believe she lived somewhere in the UK, and did her best to influence traditionalist groups there.  But this is all from memory.  A lot of the stuff that was posted online about it got scrubbed.  For instance, even if ABLF was still up, there's no record of the discussions surrounding her.  Nor at TD, as I believe there was a brief thread there.  Maybe some info is still on CI (one of the main benefits of owning your own web server, I suppose).

But for places like ABLF, TD, IA-- relying on public, freely-licensed servers means "playing by other people's rules" sometimes.  SJB had a lot of pull, and we weren't able to keep discussing things about her.

  • What ever happened to Patricius? He was the owner of Iggy who was absent for quite awhile before that SBJ thing finally caused a crash&burn.

I think Archbishop Lefebvre Forum was removed because they used the software Simple Machines.  Simple Machines is a free software. Apparently someone holding a grudge against ALF reported their forum to Simple Machines. ALF broke the rules because they had a sub-forum on Jєωs. I guess it was considered hate speech.

I don't think this is right because if that was the reason, it wouldn't explain why SSS shut down his blog at the same time he shut down his forum and why he disappeared from the traditional Catholic internet sphere completely without apparently telling anyone why.

    You're right.

And while we're at it, here are a few more facts to consider:

    1. SSS was homeschooled.
    2. SSS was a geographic home-aloner. He had no place for Mass. He might not have been a *dogmatic* home aloner and so it wasn't his fault, but being without  regular Mass and sacraments is always dangerous.
    3. SSS is young, single. He wasn't fully established yet. "Who he is" wasn't set in stone yet.
    4. SSS had one life long dream: to own and operate his own forum.
    5. SSS was not even part choleric; not exactly a "sign from God" that he's meant to run a forum. On the contrary, his Beta personality should have been interpreted as a sign that he's NOT meant to be a leader, forum owner, business owner, etc. Cholerics eat obstacles for breakfast. At the very least, an owner/moderator must have a strong backbone to deal with all the strong personalities one will encounter on a Trad forum.
