    • A Bronx teen has been charged with a misdemeanor after cops found her dead baby in a trash chute.

    Ariel Devonish-Francis, 19, of West Farms Road could face more serious charges if the city Medical Examiner's Office finds that the preemie she delivered was born alive before the teen allegedly threw it out in a black plastic bag, police sources said.

    Devonish-Francis went to Albert Einstein University Hospital on Saturday and allegedly told staff she had given birth or miscarried and threw the baby into the chute.

    Investigators found the baby's remains in the bag with the trash around 6 p.m. Saturday.

    The teen was charged with unlawful disposal of a cadaver around 12:30 a.m. Police sources said they were waiting for an autopsy to determine whether the baby was born alive.

    • those are only preliminary charges. If the autopsy determines that the baby was born alive before it was thrown down the trash chute, then the charges could be upgraded to murder.

    • The old test was to remove the dead Baby's lungs.
    If the lungs float, after being placed in water, the baby was born alive.
    A stillborn babes lungs are not oxygenated and will sink.

    • The baby could have died soon after birth of natural causes.  Still, this is horrifying all around.
