  • Current height: 162.45

Static capacity (when the water isn't moving and applying additional pressure to the dam): 175m
    Difference: 12.55m, or 41.17ft

Dam height: 181m (they say 185m in some of the docuмentation but the lowest point on the dam is 181m, and much of the surrounding area may be slightly lower than that, about 180.4m)
    Difference: 18.55m, or 60.86ft

If we're getting around 10cm every hour, that's 2.5m every 24 hours, so to hit 175m it'll take five days, and to hit 181m it'll take another two and a half.

Since the last time we had this severe a flood produced damage to the dam's structure, caused infiltration of the concrete, and made the deflection in the middle of the dam worse, I would anticipate that we won't need the full timeline. We just need water.

  • I've been hearing that 3 Gorges is about to burst for the past ten years.

  • That may be because the cracks first developed near the base several years ago.  Apparently, with the rising waters, everything is getting worse.  But, we'll have to wait and see.  I'm just glad that with civilian satellite coverage, the Chi-coms won't be able to hide the event if it does burst.

I think this is different though due to the torrential rains they have been experiencing.
