I have seen old tv shows where married couples each have their own twin bed in the same room. Maybe it was like that back in the day?
Network television was held to fairly strict standards. It was seen as taboo for onscreen couples to share a bed even though for example, in I Love Lucy, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball were married in real-life.

The TV shows had to follow a code of morality back then and they were not allowed to show/suggest  male and female in the same bed.
That being said, in reality, houses had more people in them then (more kids) and there wasn't even an opportunity for parents sleeping apart, hence the saying "in the dog house".
This makes sense, thank you.

The intention of my original comment was only to offer a lighthearted observation, followed with a question about said observation.

Not sure why it became such a point of contention.

Then ask some other elderly couple from your parish.
I'm a sede, and no thank you as i really don't care that much.

Minnesota: Thank you for the charitable answer.

That is an interesting reply. What does being a "sede" have to do with asking an elderly couple? I think just responding "i really don't care that much." would have been more than sufficient."
