  • I searched for a thread about the Jesus Prayer, but the results were not what I was looking for. Does anyone know if there is already a thread for this? The Jesus Prayer "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on  me, a sinner" is repeated over and over several times a day until it just kind of becomes constant backdrop in your mind, helping you to be more mindful of God in you daily life. I have heard some Catholics as well as Orthodox practice this, and that it is a great help in advancing spiritually. Is there any reason a Catholic shouldn't practice this? Thanks in advance.

  • From what I've found over the years the Jesus Prayer.....Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me a sinner;  was the prayer of the very early pilgrims as they made a pilgrimage, walking to Jerusalem.

They used a circular string of 100 beads with a crucifix attached, and prayed it constantly as they walked.

I read somewhere that the beads must be strung on a string of lamb's wool. (significant)
I think the Russians call this a Chotki (sp) or their's is similar.

I keep one under my pillow and use it while falling asleep at night;  very comforting.
"Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered: and them that hate Him flee from before His Holy Face"  Psalm 67:2[/b]
