  • Can someone tell Mr Loemann from New Zealand that the Church is not a democracy. He is sending around requests in support of a petition  to Bishop Williamson in favour of his daughter's convent in Ireland. I know New Zealand is an out of the way place, but even down there they must know that the Church does not operate like that. What next? Voting for a new bishop?!! He seems to have got over emotional about this convent because his daughter is the one and only novice there which has clouded his judgement.

He uses the example of Archbishop Lefebvre and his sister, Mere Marie Christiane. There is absolutely no comparison. Mere Marie Christiane had been a Carmelite Nun for over 40 years in an established Order when she was given official permission to leave and start an 'experiment in Tradition' and continue the Carmelite Order as it always was. In Ireland a former eccentric 'hermitess' has started a brand new order. Most on the ground would agree that she is not Reverend Mother material, let alone founding a new Order. No Bishop in their right mind would give his stamp of approval unless he was founding the Order. They would wait many years before doing so to see whether it is of God or not.

Mr Loemann, we live in anarchic times, please don't make it worse

  • While the Church is not a democracy anybody can petition the bishop for what they believe is for the good of the Church.
