  • The legacy of the Baby Boomers is that their children walk through life blind, as if they were wearing a blindfold, never able to see until after they bump into obstacles throughout their life.

Coming from the stereotypical Baby Boomer parents, trying to raise children is like re-inventing the wheel.

But there's a myriad of other things in life a person of my generation could have known beforehand that simply was neglected to be taught.

  • It also makes for grandparents that don't know very much about parenting -- that is, they still can't help you.

  • Blame it on the promotion of the books of so-called child care authored by
one Dr. Benjamin Spock that were widely promoted in the colleges and
the media starting in the late 1940's.
He was the one that shared responsibility of the ruination of the
generation of the baby boomers. Let the child do his own thing,
discourage discipline, and claims that discipline is even harmful.
Give in to the child's wants and passions.
The baby boomers regardless of class where more pampered than
every generation that came before. And, I afraid for successive generations.
We pay for it today because the world now accepts decedent and lax
social standards that has now affected all strata of society.
I should know, I am a baby boomer born in 1946.

  • On the plus side, round pegs often beget square ones.

Having been deprived of a father since early childhood (thanks to his having succuмbed at last to a heroin habit acquired in his hippie youth in the 60's), I am that much more keenly aware of the critically important role a (good) father plays in the rearing of children... My own children will therefore benefit from my own loss.
