My son is now a teenager. Like many teens he is pondering and questioning the meaning of life. Although he has never said it, I can tell that he is also questioning Traditional Catholicism. He doesn't seem to doubt the Sacredness of the Mass, the need for confession, or mortification of the senses. However, it seems that he doesn't put much belief in apparitions or devotions to the saints. I can tell that he doubts the Fatima message....it's been a 100 years and still nothing. Message should have been revealed in the 60's...Church continues to self destruct...still heaven doesn't intervene etc....

Any suggestions how to address these understandable doubts?

Get yourself an old book on Fatima with pictures taken Oct 13 showing 70,000 people soaking wet and then dry.
Let him read the book to see that people withing 5 miles saw the miracle and it was reported that week as far away as England.

I read somewhere that scientists said the heat would have had to be in the thousands of degrees to dry out peoples' clothes and the muddy ground. That would have cremated the people.

Ask him to read the book.

My suggestion is - the mentality of the R&R is messing them up. I have seen an increased amount of people show up on forums where the moderators are R&R and the moderators actually tend to favor rationalism, perhaps because they cannot even detect it. The R&R position is doing its damage, and a post like this is only the beginning.

For eight years we drove three hours each way for SSPX Mass. In 2012 we started with Fr. Hewko, participated in his boys summer retreats and hosted him numerous times for Mass. That came to an end for multiple reasons. Now we're back at the SSPX Chapel. I think with all the changes in Mass locations, seemingly unfulfilled prophesy, not so saintly new saints, old Saints who seem so old and distant and seemingly abandoned by the world, I feel like he is starting to think this Traditional Catholic stuff is a mix of Fairy Tales and nostalgia (my words not his).

He use to show a genuine interest, now he seems to be just going through the motions to please the Ol' Man.

I miss that little boy who was beaming to always learn more.

Lastly, he use to be excited to see if his name was on the Server Schedule. Now he is indifferent. Makes me sad to see that "spark" gone.

One more point...when asking why we drive three hours each way to Mass I would explain that the NO was going off track and we were trying to keep the faith. When asking why we no longer went to SSPX I'd say they are going off track, we're trying to keep the faith. When asking why we no longer have Mass at our house, I say OLMC is going off track, we're trying to keep the faith.... I'm getting the impression that he's starting to see the instability and it's starting to make him doubt who and what he can REALLY believe in.

You seem to guessing a lot. Have you asked your son what he thinks about things you believe he might be doubting? Keeping in mind of course that there is a time when young people have to work a few things out for themselves in order to embrace the Faith as adults.

Unfortunately, FSSP is a danger to the faith. They refuse to publicly condemn the New Mass, Sacrilegious "Communion" in the hand, Vatican II, Modernist Rome...to name a few. As +Williamson once wrote to me, they commit a serious sin of ommission. They place souls in danger, not necessarily by what they say, but by what they don't.

We go to Mass, because the Precious Blood is there. The Power is in the Blood. It is in all the sacraments. For all the evils we need the Precious Blood.

For myself, what helped me with Truth and Zeal was The Song of Bernadette. And the Scarlet and the Black is very good. I hope I have the name of that last movie title correct. These are very moving. I do think he would enjoy the later one. He needs to see the power of the Supernatural. He needs to see it at work.

My mom would take us to the elderly care centers. How priest go to give Extreme Unction. How that soul may be full of anger and after the Sacrament, is at peace.

Books of saints. Some teens don't like books but movies can move them.

Thanks Nadir. I have asked him. He always responds to the affirmative but his actions and body language seem to tell a different story.

He never fuses about praying the Rosary, Stations of the Cross, or going to Mass. He goes to Confession on his own etc...

I understand that a point comes in every man's life when he has to sort things out for himself. I want him to believe because of a solid Catholic foundation, not b/c his dad told him. I always teach him the rock solid dogmas of the faith with the explanation that even if the Pope himself decides not to obey, it would still not stop these teachings from being true.

I want to give my son roots and wings. Roots in the Holy Catholic Faith and wings to carry that Faith wherever God may lead him.

Pray to St. Joseph everyday for him. St. Joseph seems to keep me on track in this Vale of Tears.

If he's in public school, take him out and take him out fast while you still have a chance. There are good home schools, like Our Lady of Victory and you can find them online.

Song of Bernadette, Scarlet and the Black ...etc are about events that took place 75 to 150 years ago.... ??? If the world and souls are in such danger...arguably in more need of the Mother of God than ever...where is she? Where is the Lady of Lourdes? Where is the Lady of Fatima? Where is the St.Catherine Laboure's, the Padre' Pio's? Heck, even the "lifeboat" SSPX is sinking!
