  • I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty happy that both my 4 year old and 3 year old have almost no idea how to work a tablet or phone by themselves.  Not even the TV remote lol.

Now, me on the other hand, I need to scale back the phone usage :laugh1:
"Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself. Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof." [Matt. 6:34]

"In all thy works remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin." [Ecclus. 7:40]

"A holy man continueth in wisdom as the sun: but a fool is changed as the moon." [Ecclus. 27:12]

  • According to Jonathon Van Maren, who has done extensive research on this topic, the average age kids are exposed to porn these days (via smartphone, of course) is around 9 years old.

And not "soft porn" or "your daddy's porn", but some seriously degrading, debased stuff that I won't go into details here. Let's just say they're trying to get NON-PERVERTS into sodomy, degradation, domination, violence, etc.

Don't worry, your kids are not in danger AS LONG AS THEY DON'T HANG AROUND NON-TRADS WITHOUT CONSTANT ADULT SUPERVISION.

But if they do, they're screwed. Just a word of warning.

9 is the age I was exposed to the hardcore stuff. I'm going to do everything I can to curb that in my kids, God help me

Take phones away?  They shouldn't have them to begin with!

Matthew, this, too, is no guarantee.  Have you carefully vetted the TRADS?  Have their children preserved their innocence?  Because if they have phones or are exposed to those who have them, corruption can enter.  Is it realistic to think children can be closely supervised at every moment?  What about when you have lots of them?

Agreed. The best way is to educate them on how to morally utilize this technology, not bar them from ever using it. Set them up to live in the world, not of it.

  • When my son is old enough I will show him dailycatholic and let him click around on there, maybe even vet some videos and download them so he can watch them with me. Computers are essential, especially in a time of chastisement. I can't just take him to the library and expect to find wholesome content like in bygone years. Having a bunch of useful PDFs and tutorial videos I have vetted for him should foster healthy curiosities in other hobbies and essential skills.

Yes, the Trads need to be vetted. Are their kids still innocent? Do they have cell phones? Do they watch any and all TV/movies?

And yes, you can't watch each of your kids 24/7, especially if you have many of them. Hence the reason to NOT have network/broadcast/cable TV in the house, nor personal cell phones for the kids. Internet should be supervised and in a public room only.

The worst your kid(s) can do then is sin -- including sɛҳuąƖ sins of a personal nature. But that won't do 1/100 the damage that hardcore porn will do to them.

  • All it takes for them to get some kind of curious notion in their head and the search engines will do their hardest to expose your kids to impure pics which will eventually lead to porn. One reason I stop going to foxnews is because the articles about celebrities and their new or lack of clothing selection. You can't avoid them if you go to their site.

Recently, during a checking on one of my kids. I start asking them questions as if I am aware that they are using the internet for impure reasons. I teach my kids that lying is the worst sin and know they will get lesser punishment if they are honest. I basically pretend I know they are doing something wrong even though I have no clue. I could look up the history but who has time for that when you can convince your kids to fess up. Also, the conversation needs to be done in private.

I asked him if he is using the computer for things against the 6-9th commandment. He tells me no. I press it further and then says he has but not sure if it was against the 6/9th commandment. He then tells me he searched for " the most beautiful girl in the world". He didn't know if it broke the commandments or if it was a mortal sin. I told him it wasn't either. However, seeking things out of curiosity can lead us in occasion of sin for vices. It might sound like an innocent search but that is how it begins. I think I remember reading how seeking knowledge that is not necessary is not a good thing and will lead to some kind of vice.

I find myself combating with my kids wasted time watching Youtube videos on topics that do not help you grow as person (i.e. developing a skill). Like they will learn the spec sheet for a brand new ford bronco. Basically information that is not totally useless.

Phone for my kids..no way. I don't have time to monitor them 24/7. I can't allow someone outside of my home to have private conversations with them anytime they want. That opportunity is too great. Social Media is about as bad as porn is. I also avoid allowing my kids to hang out with other kids with phones. When they get to a certain age, there are a couple MHFM videos that us boys will watch to help get the message across.
