    • My grandpa was 29 years older than my grandma. They loved each other well, and she remained committed to him until the end. The downside is, of course, that she was widowed fairly early. He was a good provider and she's not had to worry about money as long as she doesn't spend too much.

    • Fr. Angeli's sister.  She married a man 15 to 20 years younger than herself.  I think that age gap is wrong.

    I go to Church with a man who married at age 30 to a GIRL age 15.  This is just plain wrong.

    Sometimes it depends no so much on the age gap but more to the particular ages of the man and woman.

    Age of Consent for a Marriage in States (with parental consent);

    Mississippi:  12
    New Hampshire:  13
    Hawaii, Missouri:  15
    about 35 states:  16

    without parental consent:

    Mississippi:  15
    remaining 49 states:  18

    BTW:  I agree that Mississippi's law is ridiculous.  TWELVE with consent and FIFTEEN WITHOUT consent?

    Things are different now days because of pornography, but when my great great grandparents were married, my ggf was 26, and my ggm was 14, and they were married in the Church, and with the blessings of both families.  They were married for 60 years (+/-) and had 17 children.  She was later a Franciscan tertiary, and all agreed it was a good match.

    Well, children also matured more quickly than they do now.  Back then some 12-year-olds were more mature than your average 25-year-old today.

    • Math to the rescue:  half your age, +7 = your lower limit.  There could be exceptions but this formula is pretty spot-on.

    A 15 year old female is a woman not a child. 

    St Elizabeth of Hungary married at 14 to Louis, Landgrave of Thuringia, and it was a particularly happy mrriage. Was this a case of rape?
