  • One piece swimwear was criticized in another thread.

Are Catholics to avoid public mixed swimming all together?

I swim now at an indoor pool and it's the only fitness that I have.

My biggest concern was my son seeing near naked women in bikinis and often being boisterous, that is why we go at times when it's not busy, it's mostly the other adult lap swimmers who don't walk around the pool.

  • May I ask, why are there recent threads about clothing?

I don't criticize the thread, I just want to know.

  • I'm not swimming on a team. Just there to "get exercise"  in and out of the pool lap lanes.  Is it inappropriate to do this in a public pool where both men and women swim?

That is a very dangerous and anti-Catholic mentality.

She is not a stripper, is a traditionalist Catholic, let Her breath.

One piece swimsuits are not considered decent enough? I would like to know why. I had thought one piece swimwear is modest, but I could be wrong of course.

Aren't they called teddies when the same shape clothing is worn as underwear?

Do you think going about in your underwear is decent?

Does the reaction it causes differ from wearing underwear?

I see. I am not well versed on the history of swimwear and did not know that the one piece was derived from underwear. Thank you.

  • Wearing less than what we would wear outside the water, is it inappropriate to go to a mixed company pool?

Wearing something that displays the body and fails to cover the the upper legs?

Inciting lust is inciting lust, whether you're at the pool or not.

  • It would seem to me that as a general rule, public swimming cannot be done without either being immodest, or without subjecting oneself to immodesty.  My question, then is, how does one ever learn how to swim?  Not that it is an absolutely necessary skill; it's more useful in some places and to some people than others, but it is a useful skill.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • Let's not play dumb here.

A quick search for "modest swimwear" ought to answer a lot of questions as to what's available.

  • As a woman, I in no way think that a one piece swimsuit is much better than a bikini.  Yes it covers more skin.  However, it is tight, low cut, usually low back and don't forget the lower half of the suit is just like underwear with regard to the cut and exposure.  Both a man and woman's upper leg ... anywhere above knee, should not be exposed and it is very immodest.  Even the women's suits that have little skirts are immodest, as the upper thigh is exposed.  The only thing I could comfortably wear would be a swimsuit with a rash-guard shirt with short sleeves over the top and long swim trunks (to the knee) over the bottom.

I've seen the modest swimwear offered online ... and that has a skirt type bottom to the knee, with some type of leggings underneath. That's an option too for those who feel more comfortable with that type of coverage.

No matter what you do or what you wear though, getting wet will cause the material to be slicked down against your body ... even the long skirt type things.   But with good effort and intention, that would be relatively minor issue.

Now, after we're modestly attired for swimming ... what about sharing the beach or pool area with those who are immodestly dressed ... .?  I don't want to see that or be around it .. and don't want to share that environment with H or son.

Annoying because I used to so love swimming.  Some of my favorite childhood memories are from summers spent swimming.
