  • Indeed, St. Francis de Sales was given the grace to snap out of it by ceasing to focus on himself, almost saying that even if he is condemned, he's going to strive to do the best he can ANYWAY to love God.  At the root of scruples is self-absorption, focusing on self, rather than focusing on God.  "I wish to do good because I love God and wish to please Him." vs. "I don't wish to do bad because I don't want to go to hell."
    This
"Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect."
"Seek first the kingdom of Heaven..."
"Every idle word that men shall speak, they shall render an account for it in the day of judgment"

  • Hi all, just a quick update

I tried contacting a priest to set up a meeting to try and get this all sorted out, but didn't hear back from him. In the meantime, my husband made an extra (2 hr drive) to go to holy hour. The priest seems to have been able to help him a lot more this time. He is doing his best to follow the advice given and seems to be feeling a bit better. If things go south again, I will try calling once more.

Please pray for us that he is able to continue to work to overcome his scrupulosity. Also thank you all so much for the advice. As always it is appreciated. God bless.

  • did you mean

Yep.  Sorry about that.  I figured that I would eventually do this, click the wrong smilie thing.  My eyesight is not great, but it's pretty much shot after about 12 hours plus of computer programming.  Plus, those things are so small and most of the yellow ones look the same to me, as do the different blue ones.

I was sure that was it, just wanted to clarify for the OP.

3-5 hours per day is bad enough for me. I require great visual acuity and when my eyes start giving me trouble, I take this for a few days: https://www.puritan.com/eye-health-003/ppherba-vision-gold60sfg-055691

Sorry to derail your thread, OP.
