  • I was pretty surprised that the altar boys didn't kneed to say the confeitor today.  First time I have seen this at an sspx chapel.  Anyone else notice this?

  • I was pretty surprised to see this in the Anonymous forum, I can't fathom how it meets the criteria for that.  At the 1962 Missal High Mass at Mary Queen of Heavan parish in Sprague, WA the altar servers knelt for the Confiteor and every other time they were suppose to.  I'm sure this is what I'll observe next Sunday when I attend a 1962 Missal High Mass at St Patrick's Parish in Walla Walla, WA.

  • Is it possible that the “altar boys” were actually deacon and subdeacon at a sung Mass?

If not, I have to believe the altar boys simply got confused and made a blunder, which happens.

My boys serve SSPX Masses, and they’ve never been taught such a thing. Nor have I seen such a thing anywhere in 22 years of SSPX Masses I’ve attended in 5 countries.

    OP here.
High mass. 10 altar boys.  Not one kneeled.

  • At every SSPX Mass I attend, servers kneel for both Confiteors — both after Psalm 42 (Prayers at the Foot of the Altar) and before receiving Communion. Never seen it any other way.

  • High mass?
There's actually a difference between a Sung mass (missa cantata) and a high mass. If it's just priest and servers, it's referred to as a Sung mass. If there's Sacred ministers serving as well (subdeacon and deacon) then it's a high mass, or solemn high mass.

Sounds like bs to me. Notice the chapel name/location and the name of the priest was conveniently left out.

Why don't you name the mass location and see if other mass-goers there can corroborate your claim?

  • I have never seem this happen.

My guess would be that the "boss" altar boy got confused because the Deacon and Subdeacon (correctly) did not kneel for the confiteor, and the rest of the boys just followed him.

High Masses are not that common, so it is understandable if a few mistakes like this happen.

And the Missa Cantata doesn't officially exist.  It's really a Low Mass with some parts sung instead of spoken.  Some of the implications of this are that the singing by the choir is not Liturgical (so, for instance, the altar boys still have to say the responses because those of the choir don't "count") ... but merely an aesthetic decoration of the Low Mass.

No, not at all.  Not even the head bowed.
