  • During the agreements with Rome, was sex abuse ever brought up by SSPX?

Several parents brought their concerns to Father Patrick Crane, who is now with another Society of Saint Pius X church – Our Lady of Sorrows in Phoenix.
Crane told investigators last month that he was aware that a boy claimed Sloniker had forced him to strip naked and then whipped him.
The priest said Sloniker worked with the church camp from 2003 to 2006, and Crane said he recalls that he did not ask the trucker back after learning about the boy’s claims.
“Crane said he remembers part of it, but it was mostly because (the boy) did not want to attend the camp,” police said.
The priest said he did not think there was enough evidence to report the incident, although Crane said he was aware the boy’s claims were made “during the time the church was being looked into for other abuse allegations across America.”
Other parents said they warned Father James Haynos, the church headmaster, and Father Paul Vassal about Sloniker, although it’s not clear they ever took any action to investigate the claims.
Vassal told police he knew about Sloniker’s circuмcision attempt, although the priest said he was unaware of any sex abuse claims against the trucker from that period.
Haynos, who now lives in Kansas, said he knew nothing of sex abuse allegations against Sloniker — although he said the failed seminary student’s “unstable mindset” should have disqualified him from “a position in which he would be in charge of kids.”

  • Not sure what agreements you're talking about? When Fellay met with Benedict XVI the discussions were all doctrinal in nature.

  • I realize this is an older thread, but I created an account to ask specifically about Fr. James Haynos.  My family attends an SSPX chapel where he currently celebrates Holy Mass from time to time.  After reading about the situation involving him in Idaho, I am quite concerned.  We only discovered the SSPX last year.  We attend only because it is the only latin mass available to us. My oldest son  serves and, obviously after reading these things, I am quite concerned.  Does anyone have any more information on his involvement in a potential cover up over the guy that received a life sentence?  If I do choose to confront him about his involvement to put my mind at ease, I would like to have as much information as possible. Also, I come from a large Catholic family, but I am the only practicing one left. If i turn to family for advice they will encourage me to leave the Faith.  So, I also appreciate any advice one might would offer in these dark times as a parent of young children... thank you.

I know Fr. Haynos and have always liked him very much.     I do not think you have anything to worry about.

Please be very careful here, as there is a possibility it seems none have as yet considered...
Yes, it is entirely possible there was a cover-up in Post Falls.
    However, consider the following:

There were three distinct ( but possibly interrelated) issues at play:
    1) The presence/acts of Mr. Sloniker
    2) The issues surrounding a former teacher
    3) The reports of widepsread ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity among the high school boys
Now suppose at various points, some boys (or even Mr. Sloniker) confessed #1.
And suppose some boys confessed things pertaining to #2.
And finally, suppose some boys confessed things pertaining to #3.
In that case, the priests would be bound -upon pain of excommunication, and damnation- to NOT report anything: They can't use any material facts learned under the seal.
If that is in fact what happened, was there really a conciliar-style cover-up?
Or, did the priests find themselves in a terrible position where, against their own strond desires, they were forced to keep this information silent?
If that is the case, then ironically, those priests are -in God's eyes- heroes of the faith (despite the terrible consequences)..
God knows which is the case: Cover-up or seal of confession.
But I point out the possibilities to keep you from making a rash judgment.
The best you can do is to remain hyper-vigilant.

Ask to speak with Father in private (with both you and your spouse) and then tell him your concerns and ask him to explain his side of the story.

    Same.

  • Anon @ 9:25am has given you very good advice. When you talk with him, you will find a very holy priest whose mission is to save souls for Our Lord Jesus Christ.  If you are willing to learn, Fr. James P Haynos will teach you the true Roman Catholic Faith.  Get down on your knees and thank God for the blessings He has bestowed upon you and your family.  Fr. Haynos is a missionary priest like his spiritual father who ordained him, Archbishop Lefebvre.

Why are you telling me that?

  • Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your advice.  It is quite difficult to find time to talk to any of our priests alone, due to schedules.  Based on what some have said here, and that difficulty, I will hold off on confronting him and remain vigilant.  I’ve heard 3 homilies of his so far, and I’ve attended at least 5 or 6 Mass’ with him as the celebrant. Nothing has been out of the ordinary, and in fact, my husband and I both noted his great leadership qualities.  I will include you all in our family rosary tonight, because you have helped ease our minds. Thank you. If something changes, and something needs to be said I will update again here.

  • I hope you meant approaching rather than confronting.

In spite of "schedules", I feel sure that the priest would welcome your approach.

You are so very welcome, and God reward you for including us in your rosary.  Will you pray for my husband's return to the sacraments too?
Father Haynos has helped me out a lot in the past.  He is a very kind priest and very conscientious.  He is also very concerned about the interior life of his faithful.  He was always leaving booklets in the vestibule for us to take and enrich our spiritual life with.  There are many vocations in the Haynos Family.   As I said, his mother is an real lady and a very lovely woman.
