I recently had a meeting at my house for the purpose of organizing a social function at my chapel. After about 20 or 30 minutes of discussion, one of the men started smoking a cigarette. I asked him to either go outside or to put it out. I personally don't care whether he smokes, but I hate the smell and believe it to be unhealthy, so I don't want it in my house.
Well, evidently this was extraordinarily rude of me. I was told by at least three people there that I was being an ungracious host, that it was none of my business, and that if I was going to be like "liberal socialists" when it came to smoking, they wanted nothing to do with me. So they got up and left.
I've developed a thick skin over the past few years, so I'm not worried about what they think of me, but I just was wondering what other people thought about the situation. Was I out of line for not wanting smoking in my own house?
