True, but doesn't charity also require prudence?  If your statement on modesty has parts of it that provoke someone to anger, like saying someone is going to hell, or calling someone names, then doesn't that distract from the point which is how to be modest?

Prudence is simply the regulation of all the virtues.

It is not circuмspection. People often confuse these things.

When our Lord drove the money changers out of the temple, it was prudent. As Christendom sent soldiers to ram swords into the stomachs of Muslims, it was prudent. As pedos, sodomites and all kinds of perverts were executed through out 2000 years of Catholic history... it was.... prudent.

Ok.  Then what would you call it when people name call and provoke to anger?

I couldnt stop laughing when you talked about people calling the Father of St. Therese a Pharisee. Because it really put into perspective how completely MAD! people are to challenge this.

What is this strange historical amnesia that exists in trads that something SO obvious as simply covering your elbows is SOMETHING CONTROVERSIAL!! I mean really!

Are yawl crazy or something?

Any wife on here challenging this should be dealt with severely by her husband. By means, which I will reserver only for the members only/men forum. GOOD GRIEF PEOPLE! What a scandal you are.

Great post Maria. Good research.
All glory to God!

Define provoke to anger.

Was Our Lord wrong to "provoke" the Pharisees to anger when they wished to take up stones to kill Him? Should He have not said anything on account of their unbridled emotion?

No. It is not His fault that they couldn't take the truth, and He did not provoke them in the true sense of the word. Their own passions provoked them.

In the same way, when the honour of truth is at stake, we are not to say silent simply for fear of causing an uproar. Let the evil people reveal themselves. Separate the wheat from the chaff.

I did give examples.  Name calling is a big one.  Telling someone they are going to hell is another.

I am very frustrated when people use Jesus with the money changers and the Pharisees as an example of it being ok to act a certain way.  Jesus was perfect he knew exactly what to do and everything was perfectly regulated.  Most humans can't mimic that.
