Title: September Ember Days
Post by: Änσnymσus on September 09, 2021, 01:53:03 PM
Dispute - Do the Ember Sept. Days follow the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, or are they the fourth week of Sept.?

Trad calendars are different.

This is getting really annoying!  Why would this topic need to be in the anonymous section?
Maybe there should be a 30 day time out from posting for abusing anonymous topics.

Pick one and go with it.

Sometimes people know people posting here, go to church with them, and they would just as soon not have those people knowing what they ask.

It can be a private thing - a need to know - so just bear with that possibility and be charitable!  Either answer the question or please stay out of it.

Others reading can find the answer useful as well, without the complaining and distraction of the "unthinking," or the bold ones never afraid of to brag about using their names and "why is Anonymous needed" -!

Fine for them.  Have mercy on those who must be cautious about seeking answers.

There are those who feel CI can be a brutal website - this doesn't help.

This is getting really annoying!  Why would this topic need to be in the αnσnymσus section?
Maybe there should be a 30 day time out from posting for abusing αnσnymσus topics.

You are not the moderator. Moderating the forum is MY job, thank you very much. I don't need your help. Please leave the moderator to complain about forum behavior and post placement.

For the record, I completely approve of this topic being in this sub-forum. I completely understand.

And frankly, my opinion is the only one that matters. There is only one moderator on CI (unless you count my wife).
CI members can safely ignore all other threats, bullying, and attempts at moderation/coercion from anyone whose username is not "Matthew". If you add up the power of all the other "bosses" and "alpha personalities" (not to say "bullies") trying to run things, their collective power doesn't amount to a single methane cow fart. Just saying.

I'm not calling the MEMBERS "cow farts" -- just their power on CathInfo. Because it's true! Think about it:

If 500 members say "he goes" and I say "he stays" -- Actual Result? He stays.
If 500 members say "he stays" and I say "he goes" -- Actual Result? He goes.

At least 500 cow farts, lit on fire, would make an impressive explosion. 500 wannabe-moderator threats or throwing their (non-existent) weight around doesn't mean jack squat.

I had the same immediate reaction as Miseremini here. It does seem strange to ask a simple question about dates anonymously. I remember the post where you, Matthew warned posters about abuse of anonymous.

I suggest to anyone who has a problem with this issue that they address Matthew directly through the Report to Moderator tool in the bottom left corner of each post and Matthew acts in accordance with his own judgement, by either taking positive action or taking no action. This works well whenever I use it.

Can I get an Amen? Well stated Matthew!!

Just looked at my two calendars. The sede one says immediately following the feast, and the SSPX one says one week following the feast.

One formula has ember Wednesday follow Sept 14, the other has ember Wednesday follow the Sunday following Sept 14.

I didn't remember which is which but it sounds like the latter is the 1962 formula.

When Sept 14 falls on Monday or Tuesday (as this year), the formulas put the ember days in different weeks.

I think the September Ember Days changed to after the 3rd Sun--in 1960 or 62(?)--when the Breviary was changed.
