  • And Bishop Fellay is prepared to support its implementation across the SSPX.

I hope Matthew will forgive me for posting this, as it is indeed just a rumor. I heard from an attendee that this information was given to those at the recent Kentucky conference. If the SSPX is prepared to support or unveil a hybrid Mass in a few months' time, it is very important to fast track the establishment of many Resistance chapels across the United States!

Can anyone confirm or deny this rumor?

  • The creation of a hybrid Mass is not a rumor.  It was announced with the publication of Summorum Pontificuм.

The only thing that can be considered rumor is the timing of the promulgation of the hybrid and whether the SSPX will accept the "new 1962 Missal".

There was a lot of evidence given in older topics during the summer that publication of the new Missal was coming soon.  Even then the rumor was "sometime in 2013" though many people thought it would come in 2012 at the beginning of Advent since that is the typical time for changes to be promulgated.  The first Sunday of Advent came and went with nothing.  I've not heard anything new that would definitely indicate the first phase of the hybrid Mass will come soon.  The actors are keeping their cards close to their chests.

I also have not heard anything about what Bishop Fellay's reaction will be to the hybrid.  It is my understanding that the SSPX has not incorporated the new and improved Good Friday prayer for the Jєωs promulgated by email by Benedict 16.  If this is true, then I doubt he will go with the hybrid.

  • Time will tell.  I don't recall anyone saying that a new hybrid mass coming out for certain in the Spring and that the SSPX was on board with it.

Recall it took nearly 4 years from the lifting of the excommunications to the expulsion of Bishop Williamson.  I would guess that more and more changes will be in preparation.  It's important not to exaggerate what they are doing, but instead to recognize the incremental changes and where they are headed.

We can tell where things are headed by the attitudes and beliefs expressed by so many of the priests with liberal orientation in the SSPX - and lay people who are very clearly liberals who don't care or don't understand what traditionalism stands for.  Undoubtedly there are also some who are corrupt and have bad intentions.  Like the people who support the Republican party and neocon candidates blindly, man of those who support Bishop Fellay seems as though they want to be tricked.  The religion is a burden for them.  The official SSPX can legitimize their doctrinal slide and pretend they are causing a regeneration of the Church.

There is no doubt in my mind that a significant proportion of the second and third generation trads don't understand why the "hardliners" have the views they have and don't really care.  They want the rest of the world to like them.

It is heartening though - there are young trads - including young trad women - who DO understand what is at stake.  There is a core of resistance not just among the old, but among the young as well.

  • I don't mind the novus ordo fssp or icksp using a hybrid mass....

...but does anyone but me find it annoying and bordering on fraud that they call it the 1962 missal?

    ???

I'm wondering why Paul VI didn't just call his new mass the Rite of 1570.

Calling an altered mass by it's unaltered name doesn't strike any of you as sickening?

Books published list their edition number in the front pages by the publisher information.

No musician out there is claiming his music was written by Mozart.

So, why is the Vatican making significant changes blending the novus ordo happy clappy banjo mass with the 1962 mass and naming it "the 1962 mass"?

Why not call it the 2013 Latin Novus Ordo Mass or the 2013 Motu Proprio of Benedict XVI?

Other than profane and vulgar trickery and deceit, I can't think of another reason.

Is that indeed what they are going to call it?  "The 1962 Mass?" Because, practically speaking, no one will buy it. For the reasons you gave.

They will ask "is it the REAL 1962 Mass, or the updated version"?
