Because having a garage sale is a mortal sin, clearly!

Or maybe it's because when user Joe advertises a garage sale in New Jersey, it then becomes clear that user "Joe" lives in New Jersey. Tradition is a small world. Some users want -- even need -- to maintain their anonymity online, for good reasons.
