  • Traditional baptism.
Traditional godparents.  They want to purchase the gown.  The child will be 8 months old.  (The family was not anywhere near a trad chapel until now, a recent move)
They would like to purchase something very traditional, and a keepsake.  Online search shows gowns like that in the $4 - 500 range.  Yikes.

Any recommendations?   The family likes to support other trad catholic businesses.

    Thank you!

  • I suppose you meant to say "in the $400-$500 range".

My daughter who had never sewed anything previously, made her own baby's christening gown and it's very beautiful. She used satin, part of her wedding veil and trimmings she had left over from her wedding dress.  It's not difficult to make baby clothes, or to have them made. A christening gown is usually longer but does not have to be.
Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

  • Try Sears and JC Penney may have some.  I crocheted outfits years ago.

  • I might suggest that you hire a seamstress, procure the materials, select a pattern, and have the baptismal gown made.

Thank you for all the responses (yes, I did mean 400 -500 price range :dancing: sorry for the misunderstanding!)

For a keepsake gown for the other-children-to-come, hiring a seamstress may be best.  Now, to find a trad Catholic seamstress!  Should be fairly easy.

I appreciate your time.  Thank you.

  • A friend of mine made my daughter's baptismal gown.  There are many patterns available online, if you know how to sew, knit, or crochet.

  • I looked on-line for a crochet pattern and crocheted my own. It makes a nice keepsake to hand down. Plus, being made with yarn it serves as a gown and blanket all at the same time!

  • Wouldn't the fact that this child is already 8 months and future children would presumably be newborns be a problem in buying an heirloom gown now?
