Race-mixing in sci-fi doesn't make sense

  • Races shouldn't be mixing in the 25th century, they should already be mixed, know what I mean? Any modern sci-fi movie always has casual race-mixing like it's no big deal, but yet they always do it. And the couple is always a pureblooded white and a pureblooded negro, asian, indian, or other brown person. So in the 24th century we're enlightened and have moved beyond race, but yet their parents (going back 20 generations) each went out of their way to marry their own kind. Gotcha. I always think to myself that if race-mixing were that widespread, and humanity had become so-called enlightened for 200+ years like in Star Trek, everyone would be light brown mixed and that would be the end of it. But they're not. Captain Picard is French, Cmdr. Riker is a white American, La Forge is pureblooded negro, Dr. Crusher is white, and so on. Are there any mulattos in Star Trek? There are some alien-human hybrids, but that's it. Is it because hollywood doesn't have enough mulatto actors to portray such a world? It's as silly as the cheesy sci-fi visual effects of the 1950s, which they only used because they had no choice. But we all know that the race mixing is put in for the viewers benefit. It's aimed at us, here in the early 21st century.

  • In Star Trek, aren't there cases of humans mating with aliens from other planets and having children with them? Like didn't the Klingon have a half human child, or something like that. That doesn't seem possible.

Yes that seems to be the fashion in later Star Trek. Still, the humans aren't all one race, but have meticulously maintained not only their races but even distinct nationalities and cultures, although Earth supposedly went to world government over 200 years previous. Doesn't make a lot of sense. Picard's family still has a vineyard in France for crying out loud.

  • As far as I remember, in the old Star Trek's I used to watch, I do not remember any ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity or transgenders. But I only watched TNG and DS9.

  • You’re complaining about the lack of realism in a fictional and futuristic TV show?  I suppose your next complaint will be about Star Wars and how the Jedi’s lightsabers aren’t realistic.

This quarantine needs to end... people are even more loopy than normal.

  • Um-- you are aware that the Star Trek universe isn't real, right?
