  • Although I disagree with Fr. Wegner on what I understand to be his position on the resistance (which opinion is based on things he said 2 years ago), I believe he is an outstanding spiritual director. I don't know the other priest.

Agree on both points.  Fr. Wegner is quite rigid, and an excellent confessor.  He helped me greatly with a persistent sin.  And holy smoke can that man work.  He's tireless.
I was very disappointed in his seeming acquiesance to the Society position on the resistance.  Knowing his discipline, I was actually shocked.

Please pardon me, I'm late to the party on this news.  Was it announced who is replacing Fr. Wegner?

  • Unbrandable posted the followiing in April

]Father Pfluger was in Quebec today and gave news about the District Superiors.

He confirmed that Father Daniel Couture will be District Superior of Canada.

Father Rostand is being transferred  to Menzingen.

Father Wegner will be District Superior of the United States.

    Father Couture is a Canadian

Father Wegnew is loyal to +Fellay or he wouldn't be District Superior of the U.S.

April?  wow I really am late to this news.  Thank you for all the updates.
Yes, your last statement is sadly true.  I realize conversion is a process and some will muster the courage to recognize and then speak out (and be evicted) later than others, but it's tragic that so many are still playing the game.

  • Fr. Wegner, in my opinion, is very German. He has an extremely serious appearance, and he is quite disciplined and orderly. But he can be warm and surprisingly funny.

I've never seen him angry but I've heard he can be vindictive, as when he publicly dressed-down Fr. Fox, and at other points, various other Résistance supporters. He is also a 'company man' in the German mold, and an ambitious one; he spearheaded the re-branding. He's no friend of the Resistance and the odds of him becoming one are about as close to nil as one could find in the new SSPX. This is part of why he's being promoted, needless to say.

Is he a liberal? Evidence points to the affirmative. Aside from what I've already recounted, his sermons are typically devoid of militancy, and socially he appears to favour liberal priests and laymen. Take these last remarks with a grain of salt, however, as they are just one man's observations.
