  • Im an employee in the administrative division of a hospital. I just received an email from my boss telling me to organize an LGBT party in June to commemorate gαy pride month. My boss said that there are employees in the hospital and patients who are LGBT and he said that they should be able to celebrate their orientation freely at the party. He said that he got this idea from a gαy co worker and so my boss has given me the job to organize it.

Im scared that if I say no, I might be fired.  What should I do?

  • Ask to have someone else do it. If that doesn't work then drag your feet till they figure out asking you was a bad idea. If I were you, I'd be looking for a new place of employment right now.

  • That is discrimination because no hospital ever had a straight party.

Docuмent everything (reply by email or memo if possible) and keep hard copies (not on a server they own).  Maybe bcc a personal email account (gmail, etc.) In your reply, point out how you enjoy your work environment, and have professional respect for co-workers and the employer.  You also take your duty of care for the patients seriously and understand that a harmonious professional environment is a necessity.  However, playing an active role in an LGBT party would run counter to your deeply held religious beliefs and, therefore, you must respectfully decline to participate.

    Then, hope they fire you.

  • Is your boss someone that you could talk to easily? Or at least without extreme amounts of difficulty? If it were me, I'd go to my boss, in person, not through e-mail, and explain to him, non-confrontationally, why you really do not want to do that, and kindly request that he appoints the task to someone else. I find that people in general, even bosses, are more likely to be agreeable in person. Through e-mail it's too easy to tell someone off because you're not looking at someone face to face.
In my experience, using words like sin, Catholic, hell, etc, are words that offend people like your boss. If you have a family depending on your income I would try to be a discreet as possible. Try not to offend at the moment, and do what Stubborn said- look for another job.

  • I don't think you need to be looking for a new place of employment.  If you have not already done so, read the employee protection laws pertaining to your job.  Because, it is most likely that they protect your choice in this situation.  Stubborn's first two bits of advice are good.  But, if it comes down to it, just say that you have a religious objection.  I doubt your boss will be pushy if you with confidence pull that card.  And also, what exactly does it mean to organize the party?  If it means lighting the candles and cutting the cake, just say that you cannot on religious grounds.  But, if it means marking some date on the hospital calendar or in obedience posting some flier on the bulletin wall, then I think you suffer it.  And, if you really are worried about losing your job.  Then, perhaps that job is not meant to be.  But, put the burden of proof on them.  Don't just leave your job on the suspicion that you will be fired and are not welcome there.  I doubt that is the case.  You just have to hold your ground.  Place the ball in their court.  I think things should be just fine.  You just have to navigate the situation.  And, be the counter puncher.

  • Inform your boss ASAP so another person may be found.  Pray, then explain yourself in a simple,  matter of fact, non- defensive manner.  By all means, go in person.  Preface by asking him (or her) to hear you out, and give you a response "tomorrow morning."  Pray for the outcome you desire, but be ready for Our Lord to change your plans.  If you are sacked, go with a calm spirit.  Rest assured another job awaits you.  Your job then is to pray and take action with faith to find it.

  • This TIA article may be of help:

How to Act when a Work Place Demands Moral Compromises?

    http://www.traditioninaction.org/religious/k020-Credentials.html

"When concrete situations arise with which you do not agree, you may make practical arrangements to avoid promoting ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, planned parenthood etc. If these arrangements are impossible, it is better to quit the job and look for another means to provide for your family. It is never licit to promote ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity or any other issues against Catholic Morals. ".
If anyone says that true and natural water is not necessary for baptism and thus twists into some metaphor the words of our Lord Jesus Christ" Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Spirit" (Jn 3:5) let him be anathema.

Is there someone else around you who would be willing to take the lead in this?

Why does that matt. Only lgbtxyz have rights normal people do not. We live In a World where people get FIRed for not agree with or speaking up against the agenda. Catholic Church will not back any morality issues or sins so you're on your own.
