  • My mother was confronted by her mother-in-law.  Mother-in-law, of no religion, said to my mom, being pregnant with number 6," when are you going to stop."  She answered, "When you say these things, it not only hurts me, it hurts your son, who desires to have more."  Mom said, mother-in-law left them alone and mom and dad had 9 of us.

When I was pregnant with number 2 in 1975, a lady old enough to be my mom said it was to early for me to have another.  I said, this is our child, not yours.

Then I had a new order catholic woman, say to 2 protestant women that the 4th child I carried was a mistake.  She proved herself by saying there was a 5 years gap between the children.  Little did that woman know, that the 2 protestant women knew me  and spoke up for me, saying they knew different.  And this happened in front of our 13 year old daughter.  Wow!

Wouldn't it be nice to hear congratulations, like it used to be in the 1950's or such.

Even my doctor told me that my file was thick and I told him that having children is a business.

I really feel for the families of today!  They have so much of the world against them and CPS and police knocking on their doors.  Doctors who deliver babies and damage women's bladders!  So sad!

Well, not necessarily. When my Mother was pregnant with her third (me) in 1945, the next door neighbour told another neighbour scornfully, "Mrs Bloggs is so happy, you'd think she'd won the lottery." Of course my mother told us that it was so much better than that!

What about when is the spouse who also have the birth control mentality? At first, being worldly, he only wanted two, because that is what the American dream family is supposed to be, now we have 4. He has agreed to a 5th one but he says no more...although in reality we may have more children (as I am still young); so he has been reluctantly agreeing contrary to his initial wishes, but still it shows that he is not truly open to life but think we can and should "plan" the number of children we will have. It is a delicate and painful situation when a large family is not the hope of both husband and wife (as it should be in a Catholic marriage) but only one spouse alone.

  • These people who say scornful things to young expecting mothers, do you think it's likely that their souls either BELONG to Satan or are actually sent from Satan?

This goes a little more deeply than merely following the advice of the world.

It's not one or the other. The way of the world IS the way of Satan. The neighbour who said that about my mother decided against children, her sister similarly and her brother had one child. This was in the 40's. Nothing new here. It's the same in Italy. I met so many old people who had one child or none. When this is a decision it is of the world and of the devil.

  • It helps to realize that as catholics, we believe, that there is "supernatural" help.  We are not alone.  We may see the work we do on this earth without God, that is, we may say or think, "this is all "I" can do" BUT with the supernatural helps can we do more?  It is easy to think we are the one with the power or such and not remember that God gave us sacraments, graces and etc.

  • There is such a thing as "Fraternal Correction" and it's a virtue to instruct the ignorant.

If someone tells me I'm doing wrong, the first thought in my head is "Well, am I?"  If they are wrong, I won't hold it against them because they are concerned for the spiritual wellbeing of a parishioner and also the spiritual atmosphere at a chapel.  In short, they are doing good.

The best course of action for any of us in these circumstances is to examine our consciences and make sure we are engaging in any sinful behavior or sinful thoughts.  This would be a good time to exhibit charity toward those who think they are protecting others by being concerned about the going's on at a chapel.

  • My daughter has been married for 10 years. They had some miscarriages and one child after a complicated pregnancy, followed by more miscarriages. Should they be required to give detailed private information of these sad occasions in order to satisfy the prurient curiosity of nosy busybodies? I think I might actually slap anyone who made accusations of their contracepting in my hearing.

Of course not.  This is why "fraternal correction" should not be offered on sole basis that a couple is without kids or few kids.  Now, as was discussed earlier in the topic, if a couple without kids or just one or two kids lectures you about having a large family, that's a different subject altogether.

Simply carrying their medical records with them should suffice.

  • I knew a couple who tried getting pregnant for 8 years.  I tried to help this couple.  I asked for charting of fertile mucus and such.  Come to find out, she could get pregnant and she may have, only she was losing the pregnancy very early as to not notice. So, I wondered why her brain was not accepting.  In just a few months she had a tubal pregnancy.  There was the reason.  She had surgery and that tube was removed.  She felt her chances were no diminished.  I told her, not at all.  The ovary was still there, and when it ovulates, if the other tube is healthy, it will come over and grab the egg.  She got pregnant is 9 months and had a baby and 2 more to follow.

Yes, it is important for us to mind our own business and to not jump to conclusions and blab, that is a sin.  But for those who wish to be helpful, this is good.  The medical profession does not always know what they could.

  • May God Bless all the young families attending SSPX chapels and sede chapels.  May they have as many children as God wills.

 ---> That all traditionalists will completely abandon the birth control mentality!

 ---> That those who sometimes judge rashly will refocus their prayer efforts toward the wellbeing of families.
