  • In my chapel, we have 4 priests and not one does any work around the house and chapel, EVERYTHING including cleaning their underwear is done by the parishioners (house and yard cleaning, maintenance, upkeep, repairs, cooking....... The priests do not lift a finger, the excuse is that the parishioners have accepted the rule that priests can't do anything and can't learn to do anything. What a life! I wish I could convince people to do all that work for free for me and my family. Crazy! In what other occupation can you get away with this?

There is nothing that I know today that I did not learn because I had to, because there was no one else who would do it for free. I learned because I had to learn.

Is the priesthood a profession for inept men?
Some years ago the attack dog of the priest would leave match sticks at strategic places around the chapel and house to see if I was really sweeping the place properly. Both are now with the Resistance. And I am still sweeping the place for free.

  • 4 priests at one chapel is ridiculous.   I know NO elderly missionary priests who do their own laundry and even do gardening and yard work while Mass with public on Sunday's.

And most monks do manual labor while other monks cook and clean.

The older NO would work hard doing choirs while young guys don't lift a finger.

Laziness one of those deadly sins.

  • 4 priests at chapel with 250 families is poor management.
Who ever is the U.S. Superior over them should be replaced.
Your choice sunny Phoenix chapel compared to chapel in the slums.  No wonder there are 4 priests in Phoenix.

  • Who is easier to control?
Cool aid trad cats or trad cats with common sense?

Those with common sense are the ones being shunned and ostracized.  Or worse attacked.

Liberalism and scandals are taking over the whole Church.

  • This is a sickening thread. Priest need to be praying and visiting the sick and helping with spiritual matters and not washing laundry. A priest has a higher dignity than president Trump or a king. This thread reeks of liberal anti-clericalism and is sinful.

You are assuming that the priests are occupied with praying and visiting the sick and helping with spiritual matters, what if they are not?

  • What is disgusting is all the sex abuse scandals world wide.   Idle hands are doing the devil's work.   What is disgusting is that many Catholic priests and laity are quiet and indifferent to liberalism and vote for abortion, euthanasia, ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖity, feminism and communism.   And yet we are anti cleric?

  • It was once easy to know what a priest was doing, if he had no radio, no TV, and you saw him, you could see what occupied his time. If he had a radio and TV all the people that saw him would know that he was watching TV all day. Today with computers, no one knows if Father is playing video games or surfing the internet (or worse), basically doing nothing. While everyone is doing the housework for father, he is goofing off on the internet.

The same happens all the time to men. They “work” 6 days a week 8am to 8pm at the office then go for drinks with their friends and come home late and go to sleep, never attending to family matters. On Sundays they spend the day playing on the internet.

No one but the people that depend on those two selfish “men” ( and have to fill in for them) knows what is really going on. The strangers say, he is a good father.

  • A father of a large family works from sun up to sundown 6 days a week and gets home at 8pm. Every day he is greeted by his wife and all the children, takes a shower and then sits down to his dinner. The family had their dinner much earlier, they sit with Dad and he asks them about their day and school and homework and life. He passes on to them his experiences in those matters that are discussed. After dinner he they all sit in the living room and continue the conversation all the children on his lap and around him. Then they do the rosary, he bids them all goodnight, tucks them into bed and goes to bed with his wife and discusses matters of parenthood and adult life.  He goes to sleep and wakes up the next morning for another day.
He has no time to play video games on the internet or any other internet distraction, he has no time to watch TV.  On Saturdays he wakes up at sunrise and works on the lawn mowing, car repairs, house repairs, appliance repairs, water system…… all day with no rest. At night it is the same routine as during the week.
On Sundays he goes to 8am mass with the entire family. They comes home after mass and have a big breakfast then they relax for a hour or so, then they pack lunch and supplies and go to swim in a cool clean lake, or go for a drive and a picnic in the hills. When they get back home, they all bathe, put on their pajamas and go to sleep .
And the next morning the new week begins.

THAT describes a good Father.  A father that the in-laws  would be proud to call their own son. Fathers can’t ask for a transfer  and  leave their family to the next father that gets sent by headquarters.

^Yep this guy has met the SSPX priests.  Our priest was going oversees to a parish in Europe.  Gave him $100 stipend to help with his relocation expenses.  He sent me a very nice letter detailing all the different beers you could buy for $100.  Not to mention Fr. Hewko one and only summer camp had alcohol given to the boys there because he felt the US laws were too puritanical.  The priests, chaperones, and kids (13-17) smoked and drank. I used to be one of his "Christeros" in Philly. Parents hit the roof when they heard.

Back to the original post. These guys travel a lot....sure...they can get road weary...sure, but yeah they can do their own laundry and if a parishioner volunteers to help, act gracious and not like you deserve it.

  • I'm disappointed to hear this, but not surprised.  I used to think highly of Fr. Hewko's work with teenage boys.  Fr. Hewko is entitled to his opinion of U.S. laws being puritanical.  I dare say he is correct regarding the current criminalization of the use of alcohol and tobacco by young ADULTS---say, 16 for tobacco, 18 for alcohol---just my opinion...  But 13 year olds?  No way!  These things are generally not good for the health of adolescents.
America was founded by Deists and Puritans, so there's no surprise the laws reflect this in some way, mostly to assuage guilt over evil laws permitting sodomite "marriage" and other mortal sins.
A Catholic is obliged to obey all civil laws that do not conflict with faith or morals, and to oppose and sometimes publicly disobey those that do. Maybe Fr. needs to review his catechism on the 4th commandment?  Also, that of giving bad example.
Even if Fr. is objectively correct, he is morally incorrect.  Abstaining from the use and purchase of alcohol and tobacco until age 21 is NOT against faith or morals.  In fact, many Catholics including great Saints abstained from these things as a matter of penance.  Not all.  St. Paul X enjoyed a good smoke.  Whether he realizes it or not, Fr. Hewko is giving the boys in his charge the message that it is allowed for Catholics to disobey lawful authority.  He should not be surprised when these boys go on to disobey not only civil authority but Church Authority as well.  "If you think a law, civil or Church, is stupid, it's okay to break it."  Better by far to set the example of Our Lord, Who, although God in the Flesh, humbled Himself by submitting to the unjust laws of men, even to the ignominy of the Cross.  If Fr. wants to have beer and a smoke, let him do it as an adult, exercising the privilege of a law-abiding adult.
He need not be dismayed in later years when one or more of these boys calls upon him for bail!  Not to mention Fr. himself could be arrested and charged with felony child endangerment!
In my job as a child care worker, there is a stupid rule regarding "weapons."  The children know it is stupid as soon as they're told it.  Obeying it does not conflict with faith or morals, so I obey it and require children in my charge to obey it.  They know my personal opinion because I tell them, but in this case, submission to lawful authority trumps personal liberty.

Sorry.  That should be St. PIUS X, not St. Paul.  These word programs that "correct" for you are exasperating!
