Priests You Have Take Care of Your House, No Cheap Servants in USA

    • In my chapel, we have 4 priests and not one does any work around the house and chapel, EVERYTHING including cleaning their underwear is done by the parishioners (house and yard cleaning, maintenance, upkeep, repairs, cooking....... The priests do not lift a finger, the excuse is that the parishioners have accepted the rule that priests can't do anything and can't learn to do anything. What a life! I wish I could convince people to do all that work for free for me and my family. Crazy! In what other occupation can you get away with this? 

    There is nothing that I know today that I did not learn because I had to, because there was no one else who would do it for free. I learned because I had to learn. 

    Is the priesthood a profession for inept men?

    • I could understand the priests "not lifting a finger" to do any work if it was in South america where you can pay a person $3 a day to work 14 hours, but in the USA, servants cost a fortune, there really are no servants compared to even Europe.

    • In my experience working with employees, if I do not work with them and show them that I can do the job that i am paying them to do, specially, sweaty, dirty jobs, they will not do the work. 

    I do not comprehend how a man can sit by all clean in the air conditioning room and while servants working for free are killing themselves in the heat, sweat, and mud, dirt, sewage, asphalt. How does that work in religion?

    • The "rule" is what the priests have convinced/ brainwashed the parishioners of. This trick is common in the work environment, the person that does the work well gets all the work, while the person that does the job poorly gets no work. The priests have convinced the parishioners that they can't do anything and so the responsible parishioners pickup the slack. Not a very empathetic (Catholic) attitude from the priests.

    Actually, the complaining comes from the pastor always complaining from the altar that people are not doing enough.

    • 4 priest and 250 parishioners? There's your problem, too few parishioners for that many priests. 

    When I was young, my local church had about 5000 parishioners and 4 priests. Moreover, I do not remember any big families like I see at traditionalist chapels today. With 5000 parishioners, there's plenty of help for 4 priests. With only 250 you got a big problem if the priests do not take care of themselves and the place provided for them. You got a big problem there.

    • In my parish we struggle with getting people to help.  I am actually embarrassed by how the chapel looks at time-especially the bathrooms. But after weeks of sending out emails, notifications in the bulletin, mentions from the pulpit, and flyers in the pews with NO response, I have given up.
    So, you do what you can and just hope for the best.
    But, for those who are in parishes and not helping- please reconsider and give those who are always helping a break.
