  • Is it a sin to want death? Even if you don't actually commit ѕυιcιdє, is it still a sin to want to?

  • If the intent is out of love of Our Lord, then no. I've been there, and I return there often. As long as there's no intent to kill oneself, you're fine.

  • We are not culpable for temptations of any kind (unless we knowingly put ourselves in temptation's way).

We are culpable once we assent to the temptations, so, if you are dwelling on those thoughts, yes, they are objectively sinful.

If the thoughts come and you push them away, no culpability. You are just under attack.

May I also recommend that you obtain a sacramental especially efficacious in dismissing the demons who tempt ѕυιcιdє? The Brief of St. Anthony !   Here is a source for the large versions: https://inhisname.com/cross-or-brief-of-st-anthony-a-house-scapular-45860  Small scapular sized versions are sometime available.

  • Wanting to commit ѕυιcιdє and wanting to die are two different things. The former will always be a sin, the latter depending on the reason. Longing for death to be with God is a good thing, I cannot recall the names but I've read of multiple saints who had this longing. I'm sure many did.

  • When St Therese woke to find her sheets blood stained, which meant she would probably die soon from consumption, she rejoiced in her heart.  Death meant life everlasting with God.

Suicidal thoughts however are always from the devil.

A good saint to research for more on that trial is St Mary Magdalene de Pazzi.

She suffered a great deal in her life and was struck with suicidal thoughts and temptations.

Her motto became, "To suffer and not to die!"

I pray to become more like her.

Will say a prayer for you as well.
