  • I have a good friend in need of urgent prayers. He was hit by a car about a week ago. He has been given Extreme Unction and the doctors have been working nonstop on him since he arrived in the hospital, but now it looks like they've run out of options for him. A day or two at most is all we have right now. He is a traditional Catholic.

Help of Christians, guard our land from assault or inward stain,
Let it be what God has planned, His new Eden where You reign.

Deo Gratias that he received the last sacraments. Your friend was very blessed!
From sudden and unprovided death, O Lord deliver us!

    God rest his soul!
How sad for those who have to learn to live with the loss of someone they loved.

If a soul has lived a virtuous life, like my dad did, then his entrance into heaven is a great source of joy for all who knew him.
Yes, he is greatly missed, but his aid from heaven is awesome, and our sorrow is turned into joy.

I talk to my dad in my daily prayers, begging his aid, and that has been a wonderful experience.

He is alive in Christ; he is not dead; he has been transformed, and he is now more alive than ever.
    Lord have mercy.

Some still grieve.  There's a void on the natural level that is never filled. I know an outstanding traditional family that lost one of their 10 children to a car accident when he was still in high school.  Almost 15 years later, the mother's eyes still overflowed with tears when speaking of him, and the father said his death left a void in his heart that will always be there.

Sudden death is traumatic. It does leave a void because the parents, relatives, classmates, and friends do not have a chance to tell the dying person that they love him and receive assurances of his love.

Additionally, was there time to repent? Was a priest able to minister to him?

This is why we pray that the Lord will spare us from sudden death and accidents.

This is also why it is imperative that we pray daily, hourly, and try to stay in the Presence of God 24/7, even in our dreams.
Wasn't it St. Paul who encouraged us to sing hymns and psalms continually and thus keep the faith?
    Lord have mercy.

Your father sounds as if he was a wonderful man.  You are fortunate to have such an intercessor in Heaven for you and your family.

He had just been to confession a few days before, and a priest was dispatched to give Last Rites at the site of the accident.  His body was still warm.

Thank you. My dad suffered greatly for two weeks as he lay dying of a stroke, unable to eat or drink, running a fever, praying constantly, and singing his First Holy Communion hymn:

    Quote
    Jesus, Jesus, Come to me.
All my longing is for Thee.
Of all friends, the best Thou art.
    Make of me Thy counterpart.
Then he would improvise and beg our Lord to meet him in his little boat to take him to Paradise:

    Quote
    Jesus, Jesus, Come to me.
All my longing is for Thee.
Meet me at the Azure Sea.
    Jesus, Jesus, Come to me.

The nurse who attended him said that just before he died, he stated his last words.

    Quote
Jesus, You and I are now one.
He was talking with Jesus who had come for him to take him home.

And yes, I cry when recalling his last words, praying that Christ Jesus will come for me too.
However, I realize that I am a sinner in need of repentance, so I beg the Lord to give me more time.
    Lord have mercy.
