So sad.  I knew both him and his brother, Brother Gerard very well.

Brother Gerard passed away in 2017 of cancer.  Does Father Nicholas also have cancer perhaps, where there may be a genetic component?

He came to watch my son play basketball one night in a small league, during halftime when there was no one on the court Fr. Nichols went down there, in his cassock of course, and started shooting the basketball. The crowd couldn’t stared at him fgor awhile, not that he was hitting baskets, but no one ever saw a priest in a cassock doing that. A truly Loving and kind Priest.

I got along well with his twin brother Brother Gerard. Fr. Nichols was in charge of the Holy Name Society at the time, and they sponsored me at the Seminary.
The Seminary did technically have tuition, but most seminarians found benefactors to sponsor their stay.
I didn't have a Society chapel to lean on, and my independent chapel was running on fumes (used to have 110+ people, but since the Indult came, the congregation went down to less than 20).
I don't know who connected us, but I got them as a benefactor. I remember writing a couple thank-you notes to them.

But from what I could tell, Fr. Nichols took his priesthood very seriously; I could tell he was a holy and devout priest. My intuition said only good things about him.

Fortunately for Fr. Nichols, "As you have lived, so shall you die."

I've heard that the day of your death will be as holy/prepared/good as your last Sunday. Has anyone else heard this?
